You can't find an HD gun outta that pile?

DUDE, you are TOTALLY just looking for an excuse to buy another gun.

Let me know if it works so I can try it on my wife.

Again out of what you put up there RIA.
If I get to pick CZ75B in .40 S&W

Rappy, as an old fart, I realize entertainment value is what sells advertising space on "news" programming and other entertainment venues......but blanket questions such as this?....I'd defend my loved ones with the most effective thing I owned, be that .22, .454, or sharp stick.....at home-ranges would vastly prefer a 12ga. pumpgun over all pipsqueaks.......

Treo I Want Mtngunr On Our Side

Treo, there used to be a time when single I owned alot of firearms. It is a hobby now. Meaning I love to shoot. But over the years the 1911 has been the baby of mine. I use 230 grn PMC Starfire. Alot of my co workers make all kinds of comments, poking fun because I do not carry 230 grn Federal Hydra-Shocks. FEDERAL HYDRA-SHOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:cuss:

I get so tired of the guys or gals that think the Glock is it syndrome there can be no other and FEDERAL HYDRA-SHOCKS ARE THE ONLY WAY. I have always said Glocks are Good. But I have preference. Anyway, enough said I just wanted to share that. I work Armed Security, and in the work I do God forbid you get into a shooting. But I know that my Kimber will not fail me. My best friend who works with me he is a Pastor (Southern Baptist) a great man,
he works part time also. He carries a Springfield Armory Mil Spec(Parkarized) and uses Winchester 230grn USA FMJ he loves them. Yes he gets rattled by the Glocksters.

CCW carry I've been using my Makarov. But I've been kicking around about getting a KAHR T-9 9mm. I have heard not much at all about Kahr. Have u or anyone else?

Shalom

I have heard a great deal about FNP HERSTAL. Awesome I hear. Thanks for that input. There FNP-45 I seen pic's, wonder how that turned out?

Shalom

RAPPY THE DO

I went with the RIA 1911, 'cuz I love 1911's, but my second choice would be the Taurus 85.
Why?
I shoot it well enough and my beloved is VERY good with it. She doesn't like "big" guns:rolleyes:

A Ruger 9mm or a used S&W .38. The market has alot of old, but still good Model 10s and the like. Finding a model 60 or 66 is a goldmine, but it can be done. Usually you can get a good .38 for 0.5-0.75 the price of a new 9mm.
The Beretta or Smith 5900 series would be my first two picks from your list. Both have proven track records.
I own a FNP-9 and it has slowly taken over as my full size carry gun. I shoot it better than my Glock if you can believe it.

pump action 12g shotgun with a glock 21 .45 cal backup. concealability isnt an issue. get the biggest bang for the buck that you can.

for home defense only?

none of the above-- I'd go with a longgun of the shotgun persuasion.

Mossberg 500, used at a pawn shop, $150 or less. Load it up with #1 or #4 buck, backed up with 00 buck if you don't have close neighbors and available slugs if you don't have neighbors anywhere within 200 yards or so. Practice "select-a-slug" drills, test the weapon with the selected ammo for dependability, and call it done.

If you're going to carry this weapon other than at the house, I'd go with the police surplus Beretta 9mm. It's a relatively cheap pistol caliber, about 16 rounds capacity as I recall, and has been proven by several police departments and the military.

I'm a fan of several other weapons on the list as well- the .45ACP RIA 1911 (but ammo is more expensive), the EAA Witness 10mm (ammo is MUCH more expensive, and you won't find it in the WWB bulk pack at Walmart), and the Taurus revolvers. I personally prefer higher capacity of autopistols for CCW use, and given the availability of 1/3 of a box of ammo in a 9mm auto, that ought to be enough to end any fight (though I personally carry .45ACP).

Whatever you pick practice, practice, practice.

Ideally I'd suggest getting a pistol AND a shotgun. Pistols are only for fighting your way to your longgun, or for having on your when you can't carry your longgun due to the current societal mores.

I picked the SW 5943 mainly because I have always liked SW autos. Got 3 just not the 5943. Its a high capacity gun chambering 9mm which is so easy to find. Thats not to say that others on the list would be turned down. Depends on what is available at the time I have to buy.

Get a shotgun first... a Mossberg 500 is inexpensive and works well.

In addition to your list, also I'd also consider a Taurus 24/7 pro (good gun, ~$350) or an FEG PA-63 (9x18 makarov, ~$130 or so).

If I had to choose from your list, I'd go for the RIA 1911.

Crime is up.

No, its not. The only thing that is "up" is the emphasis that the media places upon crime-related stories, leading to the incorrect common perception that crime is worse than ever. The UCR, NIBRS, and NCVS (and many more) all have shown a steady, significant decline in crime annually, since the late 1970's. Dont believe me? Check with the FBI and Bureau of Justice Statistics, the above studies are on their websites.

However, despite the premise of your question being factually wrong, if I had to chose one of the choices listed, I'd definitely go with the Rock Island 1911.

Ok, my vote was for the 1911. Modified to your specs of course.

I love my pistols, especially the RIA that I built for rough use using several MEU specs. It's underwater or covered with dirt or mud most of the time when I'm out camping - though it does get cleaned thoroughly when I get back to camp.

But, I have to go with everyone who suggested a long gun. I live in the country, and if I don't know what I'm facing, I grab the Mossy 500 (7+1 capacity, folding wire stock, heat shroud). If I know it's a coyote or that I'll need range, I grab the SKS with peep sights (which I prefer over the AR15 or AK47, say what you will).

However, if it had to be a pistol, and I had my 'druthers:

1) 1911. Flat MS housing, fitted beavertail/commander hammer setup, rail with white light, night sights, ambi safety (King's or Kimber - I'm a lefty), Pachmayr wraparound grips, maybe night sights, and Wilson 10 round mags.

2) Beretta or Taurus 92. New 6" Magnaported barrel should be installed. Maybe night sights. Hogue grips (very tacky and grip well.) Mec-Gar 20 round mag. Corbon 90gr +P "Casino Load" @ 1500fps (flash suppressed, decent terminal performance, albeit a bit shallow, low overpenetration.)

What would you choose from the following guns when you are short on funds and cannot afford HK, Sig, Kimber, etc. Lets take it to the polls.

Of that particular list, I would probably start with the Ruger P95.

That said, I just acquired, a few weeks back, a Taurus 605 (like the 95, but .357), that looks like it will be a good gun.

There's much more that would feed into this question. Fer instance:

Is this a house gun, or will it be carried about on your person?

Ammo availability -- you're not going to find 9x18 or 10mm at Wally World, so don't confuse the poor guy at the sporting goods counter by asking.

Support -- Ruger's good, S&W is good. Taurus and EAA have reputations, use the search function up top of the page. Charter Arms has been in and out of business several times. And with makarov.com closing it's doors, nobody really supports the Makarov well any more.

I voted Ruger but only cause I'm Unfamilar with RIA also I would've chosen the berretta but it dosen't fit my hand well
