Brennan, how you like that rig? One of the hardest things about carrying a P7-series pistol OWB is balance - too many rigs let the butt slap around.

I love it.
Kevin's work is outstanding. I fled to OWB-land after a disheartening experience with an impossibly thick IWB. When I acquired my P7, I decided to go OWB and it's very comfortable. I'm still going to return to IWB though, if only due to the heat here in TX.

The Defender definitely holds the pistol in tight. I'm looking into
K&D's Maverick Defender IWB
or Concealco's IWB
For easier concealment under lighter clothing, but this OWB will always be a favorite.

FWIW:

Regarding the FIST Kydex as mentioned by "matheath".. I'm a big fan of these iwb holsters, and have one for my P7 & J frame Smith.

The FIST Kydex is extremely thin, and fits my P7 perfectly. The only complaint I have about using a Kydex with my P7 is concern for slide wear, as when you insert and withdraw the P7 it IS a tight (by design) fit. I'd be the first to admit the FIST isn't the prettiest girl at the prom, but it does the job perfectly.

I originally was not concerned about potential for slide wear because it was my intention to have my P7 hardchromed by Tripp, (yeah, I know he's not doing that any longer), but I was so pleased with the overall condition of the "A" grade (CDNN) HK P7 that I just don't want to have it refinished.. Later on if slide wear becomes a concern I will have it refinished by Fords.

I consider the FIST holsters as excellent as regards fit and function, and FIST does make a leather version of any of their Kydex holsters, so I'm thinking about ordering another FIST iwb for the P7 like the one pictured, but in leather.



Just another option.

P.S. I read one post on a firearms forum where a customer bought an "A" grade HK P7 from CDNN and was very unhappy with the condition of the pistol he received.. The pictures with the post made me agree with that person, but of the three I bought from CDNN (separate transactions) two were "like new/exc." one was "NIB". I told my buddy about these CDNN P7's and he ordered one too, ("A" grade) and he said his pistol came NIB also.

I am a big fan of CDNN and would recommend them without reservation.

FIST Inc holsters get a lot of favorable mentions over on DefensiveCarry.
I haven't ever had the opportunity to handle any of their holsters, but I was just eyeballing one of their leather models (#19 close cropped) online. I'll take a look at their thin kydex as well.

When i got my P7 I called Kevin at http://kdholsters.com/ and visited with him ( actually i whined and whimpered ) . On discussing my needs and wants ( which amounted to wanting a good looking holster that would work for both iwb and owb carry He came up with what is now called the Thunderbird Defender . I am extremely pleased with the holster , and with the extra lengths Kevin went to for me in order to make me exactly what i wanted .

Thanks for reminding me about that/your holster. I'd forgotten about that one.
I went back and reviewed some emails and found Kevin doesn't feel the Maverick will be a good choice for the P7.

Concealed carry has been a lower priority for me lately since I'm working at a prison. But I'm looking to go back to a more normal job and want to find something IWB & tuckable.

BrennanKG Tho the holster Kevin made for me is " tuckable " I have never ( and its not likely i ever will ) used it as such . I am an old stick in the mud and dont see a lot of use for the " tuckable " feature other than to complicate the draw if the shirt tail hangs . If i am in a situation where a tuckable works , well so does a different pistol in an ankle rig or pocket either of which i personally like better . The point to me was that Kevin was willing to sell me a holster that enabled me to fold the cost of another holster into spare mags for my p7, and i feel that mag cost ( which allready has went from about 30 bucks and change to near 50 bucks each ) will drive the market as much as availability of the retired p7s that are as a rule sold with one mag . Partly due to Kevins devotion to keeping a whining redneck happy i now have 8 psp mags which gives me a " buffer " if and when i can run across another p7 priced in the bargain ( read here someone cant live without a high point carbine or similar and wants to trade lol ) category .

In all fairness others make p7( psp style ) holsters also if you shop around but they are few and far between , and frankly most of them like their work more than Kevin . I was one of a couple hundred folk who bought my gun from " Wildalaska " on TFL forum , he has http://wildwestguns.com/ . I point this out because he has a " captive " leathersmith up there making psp style holsters at a reasonable price , but you will have to contact him ( ken or wildalaska ) to find the info ect. The ultimate p7 rig(s) are made by Matt DelFatti , but at a 2+ year wait time and in some cases a price that approaches what one could pickup a grade b used for lol . Hell used del fatti holsters are not out of line at 170.00 or so .

you as a consumer ( all of you owning p7s of any type ) need to remember that the p7 is a compact design that tho it may have a 4" tube is still slide short . This means you will have to have a holster which supports the pistol both front and back , and either fits the belt tight or is iwb and cinched down to control the heavy butt from shifting . A single point holster is not going to work well no matter how its made , and kudos to some custom holster smiths ( an example was just posted ) for saying NO this is not the design you want for this pistol . I know for a fact that Kevin at k&d bought one of the trade in p7s and then had it for sale . I assume he decided the pistol is not for him , but did as a holster maker use it to assist himself in helping customers decide what holster might or might not work from personal knowledge carrying it for a time .

Been carrying mine for a while now in a K&D Cochise Defender. Very comfortable and concealable.

Being new to CC, it seems a little easy for the gun to fall out if you do something requiring some bending or strenuous or jarring movements like jumping. But, I won't know for sure until I get one. Good to know about KD, thanks.

Some were just finished that way. (On purpose? I don't know.)

I got a P&M8 police return that has a purple hue to the slide. My others, including the PSPs are all black slided.
