I'm you're huckleberry. - Doc Holiday

I was born, six gun in my hand
Behind the gun, I make my final stand
Thatýs why they call me Bad Company. - Bad Company.

Large caliber Sniper Rifles such as the .50 Browning Machine Gun can derail freight cars - The Brady Campaign

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

I'll make ya famous! - Billy the Kid

If God had meant for me to carry only one gun he'd have given me only one hip. From some western long ago.

You know, you've got to hand it to the Mexicans when if comes to swift justice. Once the Federales get their mitts on a criminal, they know just what to do with him. They hand him a shovel, tell him where to dig, when he's dug deep enough, they tell him to put the shovel down, smoke a cigarette, and say his prayers. In another five minutes, he's being covered over with the dirt he dug out.
Right after that is said, the banditos are shot.

There are no good guns, there are no bad guns. A gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a good man is no threat to anyone, except bad people.
Attributed to: Charlton Heston.

There's an old Irish proverb:

ferr doairm diairm - "Better badly armed than weaponless"

(Of course, it's best to be well-armed if you can be!)

Quote:
"Having a gun and thinking you are armed is like having a piano and thinking you are a musician."

Sorry but that is one of the silliest things I have ever seen in print ....

Actually it's one of Cooper's most incisive analogies. Amazing that it is not understood by some.

"I think it's a thing on the back that goes up."

"I'm from the BATF... and I'm here to help you."

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.

Robert A. Heinlein

Thanks for telling us who said it Skidmark, I didn't know that before. Always loved the quote though.

Irish spelling confuses me. Only word I get out of that is ferr (fearr)

The Old Irish spelling is different. Anyone for a short grammer lesson?

'ferr' you recognized, it means "better".

'Arm' is a word the Irish borrowed from Latin, in Old Irish it can mean either armor or weapon.

'do-' is a perjorative prefix, (as in 'dodelba' - misshapen, badly formed). 'doairm' = "badly armed".

'di-' is a negative prefix, (as in 'digrád' - dislike). 'diairm' = "unarmed".

Here's another one, 'deg-' is a prefix that means the opposite of 'do-', so 'degairm' means "well-armed"

'Ní dlig degairm fer cen gliaid' - "A man without fight does not deserve to be well-armed"

Okay, I'm finished showing off. BTW, TallPine you've got a great tag-line.

If it is not steel, it's not real.

OMG I feel a Glock joke coming up! LOL:D

My favorite inspirational, gun/weapon/liberty related statement is:

Xerxes: "SPARTANS!, LAY DOWN YOUR WEAPONS!

King Leonidas: "PERSIANS! COME AND GET THEM!!!!!!!"

"Power flows from the barrel of a gun. And we shall have all the guns."
-Chairman Mao in the Chinese Civil War period (1927-1937)
