I tried the Search function but come not find any answers. How much difference in felt recoil is there between a O/U vs a "gas" gun? I have been thinking about an O/U for dove. No particular reason other than I have always wanted one.
My typical dove load is 1 1/8 - 1 1/4 oz of shot at 1200 fps.
I realize some O/U may shoot a little softer than others. The two that I am interested in are the Yildiz and Remington/Baikal.
I have zero interest in the high dollar O/U guns.

Assuming the guns are of equivalent weight and have the same butt pad, the gas semiauto will have about 30 percent less felt recoil.

The gas autos just seem to spread the recoil over a longer time period and therefore the recoil seems to be less sharp. It's hard to put a percentage on it, but 20% to 30% less "felt" recoil seems about right to me.

Pete409 expresses it well. Let me describe it a bit diffferent. My boy has the Baikal/Spartan O/U 12ga. The recoil is not bad but more crisp and immediate than the 1100 Classic trap I shoot. The 1100 is more of a push than a crisp lick on your shoulder. Hope this helps! Neither is bad, just different.

I would recommend that you consider the Stoeger Condor series of o/u. I have a 410 model that I am very pleased with, and it is well built. They have a better grade that has some nice wood too. The price is right also. I purchased mine through ableammo.com.

I have seriously looked at the Condor. It actually fits me better than the other two I mentioned.

Stick with the 1100. It's as soft shooting as just about anything. The low end O/U can be a crap shoot as far as getting a good one.
