Looking to pick up an AK74 style rifle chambered in 5.45x39. Who's got em? Are they all Century rifles? Anything I should know before purchasing one of these?

I heard Russia is switching back to 7.62x39, any truth to that?

Thanks.

I heard that Russia's switching back to 7.62x39mm too... but I'm not really sure how true it is.
Anyway, a whole bunch of domestic manufacturers make 5.45x39mm Kalashnikov semi-autos. Ewbank Mfg, Arsenal, Vector, etc...

I have one on order from Ohio Rapid Fire. Atlantic Firearms has Interarms built Tantals. Henderson Defense might be able to help you out.

I've heard back and forth things about Russia switching back to 7.62x39 as primary ammo, but it is true that they ARE bringing it back to use to some extent. Whether or not they plan to replace the 5.45 is beyond me.

Ohio Rapid Fire has bulgarian AKS-74, and AK-74, im not sure if they have any in stock at the moment but they should real soon.

Russia is firmly wedded to the 5.45x39.
The only recent combat use of the 7.62x39 was by Spetznaz in house-to-house fighting in Chechnya, and only because the 7.62 punched through walls better.

Here's the Ohio Rapid Fire I bought last Fall.
It's a new, all matching Bulgarian de-milled kit on an Arsenal/Global fully hardened receiver.
I refinished the wood, and replaced the stock with an Ironwood Designs butt.

Absolutely top quality workmanship, accuracy, and reliability.
In addition, you get some nice accessories with the ORF rifles.
The rifle ships in a plastic gun case, and comes with a new Bulgarian orange bayonet, sling, cleaning kit, 4 strippers and a stripper guide, a new/like new black Bulgarian magazine, a black US made pistol grip, a stainless gas piston, a black poly buffer, and a Tapco G2 trigger unit.

I've got one of those wood ORF AK-74 coming but with the left side folder. They're supposed to be waiting on NoDak NSD-2 receivers for the sidefolders, hence the back order. That's what made me jump on the list.

I've got a Henderson AKS-74 and a SAR-2. Both work well. The AK-74 will run a good bit, $700-900. Only a used Arsenal SLR-105 will be a factory 74. Used SAR-2 are factory guns and are cheaper, $400-500. They clean up nice.

Stay away from the CAI Tantels. They have a crappy barrel that's very hit or miss even with surplus. Interarms Tantels should be in the $550 range and use orginal Polish barrels and should be GTG.

I got a WASR II from Center Fire. Less than $300 with an excellent trigger. Some friends and I fired about two weeks ago. No problems.
