Howdy, Folks,
I was thinking about getting a CCW Pistol chambered in .45 ACP along with a .45 ACP Carbine that can share magazines but not completely break the bank. Is this possible?

Mine is in 9mm and You could do it in .40 but I don't know if Kel Tec makes the Sub 2000 in .45. I like my Sub 2000 but it is what it is, not a high priced carbine. Trigger pull on mine is adequate but not great and I have yet to take it to a gunsmith to see if it can be smoothed and/ or lightened. Mine Combos with my Glock 17.

Nope

The most obvious choice probably if you're strictly talking .45acp , would probably be the Beretta PX4 pistol and CX4 carbine. They are designed to work together using the same magazines. Nice thing is they are both very good guns. Actually, I had the chance to shoot this combination of firearms belonging to a friend just a few days ago in .40s&W, and I was suitably impressed b the performance of both. You can probably get the combination for somewhere around $1000.

EDIT: Here's the links to both products at Bud's . prices have gone up since last I looked ! They must be selling well. The things is , they list different mag capacity. I'm not positive now that the .45 offerings are compatible with each other. Maybe someone else can answer this. I know for certain that the .40s&W models are.

If you were really concerned with the money though , probably the cheapest way to go is a glock 22/ KT Sub2k in .40 combo , or a similar glock/KT combo in 9mm. One of those setups could be kept down around $700 or so and still share magazines.

I love the look of the CX4 but was a little disappointed in the gun (for the price). Nothing wrong with it, just not a good value for the money IMHO. I shot one several times and just didn't feel like it was that worth $200-$300 more than either the Kel Tec or the HP.

Beretta...I guess I could save up for that. I just like the idea of having a pistol and a rifle to share ammo. What do you folks think about the idea?

I have a Browning hi power 40 and a high point carbine in 40, the Highpoint is
a super accurate, fun carbine.

The only other combo I can think of that shares mags is to get a GLOCK in .45 and then a Kriss Super V carbine, which can use GLOCK mags.

Other than that, yeah, Beretta.

Shared caliber is much easier.

Mech Tech makes a carbine conversion kit for both Glock and Colt (1911 and clones). They shoot nice and are accurate for a pistol round. They use the lower so any clip will work in both. For the 1911 frame, clips are available up to 50 rounds.

Ah, you interchanged clip and mag! Incoming! Hit the dirt! :D

Yep, Mech Tech.
I put a surplus USAF stock on mine. It has a different frame on it now. The L/W Commander is put back together. I bought an used Essox frame cheap and put it on the CCU. It had a tiny crack in it on the dust cover, but it will pose no problem on the CCU.

Mech Tech, huh? Now could I convince myself to buy a Glock? I could go with a 1911...But either or, I'd have to buy 2 since I want a dedicated carbine.

I was just wishful thinking about a combo the other day when looking at a a Marlin 45 carbine......
I sure would like to see Springfield come out with a carbine that would take the same mags as their XD pistols.
Beretta has the PX4 pistol and CX4 carbine so there has to be some demand for the combos.

Glock 21 and a Kriss Super V.

There is a Kriss Super V on Gunbroker for $2000. That sounds like breaking the bank to me.

I think its a great idea if you just want to do it for kicks. If your plan is to have one for self defense and one for home defense I think you could do better for the money. The cheapest current production .45acp long gun is the CX4 at $700. For $700 you can get a good AR15.

Do you want them to share mags too? Then you are definitely limited to either the Super V or the CX4.

If you have any love of revolvers then maybe a .357 combo might be fun too.

I found the Mech Tech to be not as accurate as I would have liked so it found a new home elsewhere. Might have just been mine, I was working with a sample of one. If you buy the Glock though you can get the Mil/ LE discount and save about $150, get an extra magazine and the Mech Tech is practically free. Keep in mind it is not a seperate gun you have to use the Glock lower on the Mech Tech upper so you essentially have one gun.

Hi-Point has been talking about a .45 carbine for years with no action but their pistols are junk so I would not bother with a combo even if they had one. Their Carbines are good little shooters but the magazines are proprietary.

Hi-Point pistols are no more junk then any other manufacturer out there. But it wouldn't matter, because the mags between their pistols/carbines are not interchangable.

I had the opportunity to handle but not shoot a Kriss the other day at a local Police Distributorship. A very interesting but costly gun. Supposedly no recoil, even in the full auto version. However, it is cost prohibative for me to even consider.
