Hopefully someone here can straighten me out.

The specific question:
I've got a Savage 11GL . It's the "hunter series" left-hand version. It came with iron sights and also drilled and tapped for a scope. It's got a front bead sight in a dovetail and an rear open sight that's mounted on the barrel. I've been thinking about an aperture or peep sight for it and I'm looking for suggestions.

The general question:
I'm confused by the model numbers for Savage. I see various aftermarket parts refer to "Savage 110" and sometimes "Savage 110 rounded receiver". I'm getting the impression that modern Savage 10, 11, 12, 110, 111 models are basically all the same gun with small differences like short/long action, heavy barrel, different stocks, etc. I'm asking this general question because I see that Williams has "receiver sights" and there's a part for "Savage 110". Will this fit my rifle? How does it fit? Does it somehow go into the holes drilled for a scope?

Contact Williams and ask them about applications of their sights.

You might also contact XS Sights since they also offer a ghost ring sight for the Savage rifles.

Another option might be to contact the Savage custom shop and see if they can set you up with the same ghost ring sight they install on their Scout rifle.

Looking at the catalog, these receivers sure look the same. I called Savages Arms just now and I can order the rear ghost ring, but the person on the phone wasn't sure if it would fit a Savage 11. She's going to have someone call me back. I talked to service/parts. Is there a different number to get hold of the custom shop?

It looks like the xssights just go into a scope base, that makes sense to me and I can imagine how that would fit easily. I'll look around for opinions on those.

The XS sight might just go on the scope mount but the question would be whether it works with the existing front bead. You might want to change that anyway.

The 2 digit savages are short action, the 3 digit are long action. The older Savages had a flat on the rear of the action, the newer ones are rounded like the front.

Right, but are they identical enough that a part listed for the "Savage 110" will work on Savage 10, 11, 12, 110, and 111?

Z_Infidel: thanks!

Just got off the phone with Savage, they're sending me the rear Williams sight, and front sight/ramp from the scout.

Good luck, I hope it works out great.
