I searched but didn't find anything worth while, so please.

Im trying to think of a way to mount a shotgun or rifle in the back of my SUV. The place its going it very narrow and mounts from above the weapon at two or three points by a 2 inch bolt.

What I want is really some basic way to hang it, securely because I do some serious off road driving sometimes. A way to easily remove it when needed with a hinge or something similar is wanted. Dont care for anything with locks either because it will be out of sight.

TIA

Sounds like something easy to make.

But I think the devices Jeff has suggested are much more elegant and less obtrusive than any sort of monstrous gun rack I might create out of metal and wood...

If you do fabricate your own don't forget a cover for the trigger/trigger guard/ saftey. I would suggest going with a locking set up because things seem to move around quite a bit driving off road.

All the mounts out there just seem to be too wide, especially at the base. I have very little room to work with. Looks like its going to have to be custom but i dont have the fabricating tools or equipment.

Im going to take some pics to give yall a better idea of how we can do this.

Maybe a little clearer? I think this is the perfect spot for something out of sight, secure and relatively easy to get to. Initially my moss. 590 is going in there but it would be nice to have the mount somewhat universal for a long gun.

this is something I would do, unles you can bend sheetmetal, find a place that makes ductwork and have them make you a heavy gauge panel that you can bolt to the existing boltholes on top, you'll have to somehow attach the bottom also, have them make it with folds that will get it close to the outside body panel, this will give you a large surface to run bolts or hangers or whatnot to mount you gun with just like if you were running the bolts through your cars body without the ugly heads visible, then you can use velcro or bungees or whatever to hold the gun in place.

Have you looked for some of the shotgun mounts used by law enforcement agencies? I've installed a bunch of them over the years. They're pretty easy to use.
