I am retired army, own a Pump Shotgun, but purchased my first hand gun, a glock 17 about a month ago. Since then, I have not stopped thinking about guns, Conceal Cary, which gun to buy for carry, which holster, what courses to take, self defense.... I have read every forum out there, researched 1000 different handguns, and just take every minute that I can to read something about handguns.

I am in Northern VA, and applied for CCW on Monday. I acutally think I said in my sleep last night "no, a .380 is not enough", and my wife woke up and said "what". "I didnt say anything, go back to sleep".

I saw a LEO (an acronym I just learned a month ago) today in plain clothes with a holdstered glock. I couldnt help but to stare at his set up.

Anyone else have it that bad in the beginning?

First of all, welcome :)
You have no idea, it's not just in the beginning and it only gets worse. I have been a handgun nut for many years with a pump 12ga and a Smelly (SMLE) as my only long arms. I recently purchased an AR and I'm going thru exactly the same thing. I honestly hope you get as many hours of enjoyment in your search as I have had in mine. When you are ready for some tips on how to slip those new toys past the better half, let me know. Got's experience there, too :neener:

That's my general state of mind.
I think of guns 24/7. Possibly quite literally.
It takes active effort for me to avoid the topic when talking to people, and it's nearly impossible for anyone to get me off of it.
So I'm weird and can't tell you whether it will continue.

because of my holsters not fitting in anything but their own closet? i have over 700 holsters.... where would you put them ?

What do you mean "in the beginning?" I have it that bad 3 years into it. Welcome to the club. Now I'm thinking about reloading all day long. I like that almost as much as shooting.

Thanks all for the welcome.

By the way, I am going to my first gun show 12-14 Sep. Hopefully, that's where I'll see and maybe buy for CC.

Hotshot - I'm not sure I'd have anywhere for 700 holsters. I have a feeling the wife would know where to put some of them and they would be picked up on Tuesday morning.

you usually end up with about 3-7 holsters / gun...

as for wifes i would trade mine in before i traded my pistol in...

Sounds normal to me. I have not stopped thinking about guns since Dad held me in his lap when I was about three years old and let me pull the trigger on his Colt Woodsman. Now this was 60 years ago, and I am always thing about what is next, the only problem is I am running out of room. At least I have a fairly high paying job so I can afford most things I want

i found out the hard way.. i found out it was cheaper to buy the gun store and shooting range then to keep shooting here...

All my thoughts in each spare moment are about guns, or some form of the hobby, be it a new gun I want, reloading, holsters, researching gunsmithing books, whatever. I am sick and do not want help.

I know how you feel. Just don't let it rule your life. You might miss out on something else important. Like I said, I know how you feel. I used to have the "I want it, need to know about it, all I talk about, read about and watch on TV syndrome". It all stopped when a good friend of mine asked me if I could shoot any of the contraptions. I said sure. My friend and wife made a bet with me and said if I couldnt shoot them excellent then I would have to sell it. That day was a sad day for me. My "buddy" made off with some good things.

That taught me an important lesson.

It may look cool but if you cant do the job with it pretty dont count for much.

Well 6 years later, my collection has "slowly" been built back up. As my wife says, "If you cant shoot it then there is no room for it here".

Even if I had more money I think it is a good rule but I still dont like it.

Side Note: I still have that Marlin 45-70 hidden.

"Anyone else have it that bad in the beginning?"

Naw. At first, there were some days I didn't even think of guns, shooting or reloading for maybe 30 minutes at a stretch. That was over fourty years ago but I still remember it clearly! :)

Set a few goals for guns. Your absolute, must have, necessary weapons. For me, it was M1A's and 1911's. After I acquired a few, it puts your mind at ease a little bit. I have set priorities on which firearms to acquire; I don't just see something I like and order it out of impulse. As much as I'd like to...

Since you're in VA, I assume you've joined VCDL?
If not, at least sign up for their free e-mails. Chances are, after you see some of the good work these folks do you'll end up joining!
One of the best resources for CHP holders (or any gun owner) around!
www.vcdl.org

BTW...chances are they'll have a table at the gun show you're going to. If so, stop by and check them out. I've been to only 1 gun show in my life, and that's where I met 'em and learned about the organization.

I see WV now has a group modeled after vcdl (www.wvcdl.org) if anybody's interested-I get the WV e-mails also.

Until I got outfitted with gear I was real comfortable with I was pretty obsessive.

Lately my interest in arms has been waning as I'm tired of constantly worrying about the future of RKBA, I can't afford to shoot as much as I'd like and I have an old Porsche that takes a bit of my time/money/attention.
