Here are pictures of a friend's Colt Agent which I understand is a rough, less polished version of the Cobra. The photos bear out the roughness in some areas. The stocks seem less finished also. SN is M10XXX which seems to be circa 1975 manufacture. Can anyone confirm the manufacture date?

Regards, Bill

I get 1983 as a Date. The unpolished finish was done during the Colt Strike of that era, the polishers walked out and they only polished the premium guns. Also The Agent and Commando were first unpolished parkerized as part of huge overseas contracts, some of which never got shipped.Don't worry the internals are (usually)finished/fitted as well as any D frame was. The sights are usually very well corrected for 158grain loads also. This era D frame Agent with the shrouded barrel was pretty much the same as the polished out Cobra of the era.
I'm on my third Agent like that! I wore out(stretched the frame) the first after maybe 3000 +p 158 grain FBI rounds and maybe 500 +p+ 110 grain treasury rounds! (before I knew better). My second one in the middle 80s was tuned to perfection and I shot it quite a bit until I became,er, 'proefficient' with it. Then I sold/traded it to another copper who adored it.He still has it! I found a NIB one in the early 90s after I got rid of the 2nd one and it has smoothed up after a couple thousand careful qualifacation rounds for my CCW over the years. I want to be buried with it!

Thanks Gordon

looks like I need to stick to the "regular" .38 Special loads. The polishers were not on active duty the date this revolver was made. Bill

The original Agent was nothing but a Cobra with shorter stocks. The idea was to offer something that would be more practical as a pocket or ankle holster gun.

What you have is a strike-era Parkerized Agent that has Cobra stocks on it. They may be replacements, or it could have come that way. Remove them, and see if the serial nunber is penciled inside of one panel.

In any case, with those stocks it is to all intent and purposes a "Parkerized Cobra."

The date of manufacture should be listed at: www.proofhouse.com

Jeeze, when I post it, my post gets deleted? But then when old fuff comes along and posts the same thing, that's fine? Whassup with that?

I don't know about others, but I've had some connection problems with The High Road tonight. That might have had something to do with your missing post.

I could not get in for about 20 minutes earlier tonight either.

Even though that parkerized Agent might be less refined, it appeals to me quite a bit anyway. Nice.

I picked one up some years back (mid-90s?) with no box, and promptly put Pachmeyers on it. I still have the original wooden grips somewhere - have to see if they have a SN on them.

Haven't shot it much - and no +P rounds. Sweet little piece.

It's a great carry piece. The one I had possessed durable parkerizing that showed little wear. In fact, I had a Dick Special 3rd generation; the blueing was barely as durable. Wish I had that pistola back. Alas and alack, the story of my life.
