So, you folks don't really like Cops!

I for one respect, salute, and will go out of my way to--reasonably--aid a proper law enforcement officer.

But I've had a couple times where bottom-of-the-barrel cops decide they're bored and start hassling me just to try and weasel something out to occupy themselves, or the officers that subdued and tranqed a mildly mentally ill man the night I was arrested (on falsified and later dropped charges) for whistling a tune to himself, or the one behind the computer and BSed me for eleven hours before she would tell me my bail and the actual official charges, or the one that shoved me toward the fingerprinting line while stepping on the back of my shoes.

And the ones that much more recently made me wait an hour to get my fingerprints for my CCL, while other people were in and out in, literally, five minutes. They didn't hassle the soldiers going in for the same thing.

It's unfortunate they're around, and far more that they're the very much more visible minority.

On the other hand, my arresting officer was very nice, chatted with me on the way to the station, and complained to the school board that the AP was pressing BS and borderline charges. Then checked on me during the process, encouraged me to use his phone between periods of school to call the legal clerks that were harassing me for not being at home during school hours, and even gave one of them a royal reaming when he heard her screaming through the phone from across the room. Kudos and my gratitude to Deputy Smith.

Until I can figure who's who, I keep my trap shut aside from yes or no answers. After a few minutes, it's usually pretty appearent.

Anyway--IBTL.

I'm offended that my name didn't make his list. Oh and where are the cops I called Sunday afternoon? they still haven't showed up and this is FRIDAY. Then again the ones I called in November of 2006 have yet to show up either.

Yep pretty much says it.

I have my reasons and they most likely wont make sense to those that feel they enforce the law.

I have always been of the opinion that unless there is an injured party involved there is no crime and hence the LEO and Courts have no business taking your property from you under the color of law, Force, Intimidation.

IE the LEO that stops you for not wearing your seat belt is just another Revenue officer for the state AKA helping the state with their plan of redistribution of wealth.

On the other hand I do appreciate the LEO that stops the actual crimes from happening those crimes that actually have a victim involved.

I like more than I dislike, but the ones I dislike I don't think that you would want to call them brother officers bob. See there are a few bad apples in every group which also includes LEO.

It’s the whole “I’m a man and you’re a boy” attitude that seems so rampant in the LE community. This is what people are so tired of and it seems obvious in your very own post. The days of “to serve and protect” have been replaced with “us vs. them”.

I guess I just hold LE officers to a higher standard than most other professions. Unfortunately it’s so very rarely that they measure up. It seems to me as if we have a majority here and not just a “few bad apples”. I sincerely hope we can turn this around however and if you’d like to take the led, by all means try something else. It sounds as if you’ll be doing all of us a great favor.

I know Avondale, AZ PD carries P220s. I had a nice conversation about it with the cop who was first on scene at daughter #2's fender-bender.

He seemed like a nice guy.

the only cop in my family is also the only man in my family that beats the crap out of his wife

edit: hes not my blood kin

I didn't bother to read through the garbage. This in and of itself will get me flamed but I don't care. I have the utmost respect for all officers. My father and my best friend since kindergarten are LEO's. My Godfather was killed in the line of duty as an LEO. 2 of my very good friends are Cops. When I'm done in the Marine Corps, I'm going to be a cop. A cop is a POS only when he or she proves themselves as such...the same way I see every other person. Please don't let these cop hating vermin influence how all of us see Law Enforcement.

not calling my brother officers to shield you and yours, find another way.

I take care of my own, thank you very much. If I wasn't legally obligated to contact cops in certain situations, I wouldn't. I don't trust anyone behind a badge.:barf:

I have never met a cop that didn't think he was better than me. (although I've met a few who were intimidated) I've heard they exist, but I've yet to see. So, until I meet one, they are no more manly than dirt.

How dare you question my masculinity? You don't know me. I am an outstanding, law-abiding citizen who cares for his country and stands for what's right. Explain yourself, sir!

I thought cassandrasdaddy was a cop.

Anyway, I have nothings against cops. It’s the police state that I don’t like.

I remember once telling a cop that I'd rather all my daughters were whores than one of them a cop. He then proceeded to reinforce my opinion by lying his a$$ off to the court. While I know there are good, honest ones on every force I also know there are guys like him and they all look alike to me. I don't call 'em unless there is no alternative and when I do I don't expect much from them. I'm seldom disappointed.

WEEEHAAAAH! this thread is taking a long ride before the lock. I like the relevancy of the thread, considering cops without guns aren't much to the average crook with bad intentions.

I think what we've learned from this thread is that cops are actually PEOPLE! :what:

And they have imperfections just like all of us. Sometimes they do stupid things, crazy things, criminal things. But, on average, they're just working joes trying to do their job and go home.

Let's all ease up and take a break, huh?

A first-class example of how the uniform is nothing more than clothing. Means nothing, garners no respect on its own, reveals little to nothing about the person in it.

Respect the man/woman, not the uniform.

Police, just like other service industries, exist in a 10/1 ratio environment. It takes 10 good interactions with the public to create 1 positive opinion by word of mouth. It takes 1 negative interaction to create 10 negative opinions by word of mouth. 1 bad officer negates 10 positive officers.

Additionally, for good or bad, police shield their brother and sister officers from the brunt of the law. This creates an "above the law" atmosphere and a "good for me, but not for thee" perception on the part of the public. This is even excluding "dirty" officers, who cannot be shielded either because their actions are so heinous or they were blatantly caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

Now, SGB, since you have lambasted us with your point of view on the negative opinions held by some members of this forum, why don't you share with us your plan for correcting these deficiencies?
