I was thinking about a real life situation, one that unfortunately has occurred and what would/should I do.
I have a handgun permit and carry all the time. If I found my self in a situation where a lone gun man was shooting such as Virgina Tech or the Colorado Church shooting, and I am behind the shooter would you shoot him in the back? I guess you should stop the threat but is it just the "Old West" speaking about not shooting some one in the back that makes me uneasy. I am not talking about someone who is running away, but the only shot you have is from behind the shooter. Would you take it? How would law enforcement view it?

I am retired now,but if I was sent to a shooter call and some licensed gun owner stopped the culprit with his gun,the first thing I would tell him is "Good job".The next thing I would tell him is to keep his mouth shut and go to the Hospital to get checked out and have his attorney meet him there. After the dust settled,I would invite the good guy out for some beers and prob. become his shooting buddy.

The idea is to stop the threat, by just about any means available.
There is no such thing is 'fair' in a gunfight.

shoot him in the back, the front, the side. whatever it takes to stop him from killing more innocent people.

If you play High Noon and he wins, a lot of students will die. Do you as an adult have the right to take that risk with students lives just so you feel like Wyatt Earp?

Depends, if a family member or sig. other is in class then yes by any means neccesary. If it is just me and there is an easier way out than through the bad guy, let him live long enough to kill others. I'm not john wayne, im not getting paid to put my behind on the proverbial line. If some unfortunate soul was to be the intended victim and they were unarmed, who am I to change fate? Thats why I tell everyone I care about to arm themselves, no-one else will care if you get mugged. So they have to take care of things themselves.

How are you going to identify the target as the shooter is they are facig away from you? If you can do that, and be sure that you are not inadvertently shooting a security guard, off-duty policeman, or other CHL holder - then sure, take the shot.

But in this thread so far, there's an awful lot of presumption that 'The Bad Guy' will be readily identifiable as such. In real life, I doubt that you'd find the scenario nearly that easy to decode.

Who are you to change fate if your family member is the intended target?

Let me clarify, I am willing to change fate and assume the responsibilities only if that person is a family member etc.:scrutiny: :neener:

Yes, absolutely you have the right. Please don't use the word 'right' to mean responsibility, duty, or minimum standards of decent human behavior.

You indicated he is already shooting. Take the shot. Take two or three. Back, head, butt or what ever... You are saving life not taking them.

You may find that the BG is wearing bodyarmor (like in the Texas Courthouse shooting) -if that were the case, your only hope is that you may have enough time to do a Failure Drill on the BG's head before he figures out where you are.

The really sad part of this is, if it is a school, any level to university level, in most states you would not be allowed to have that weapon on you!

The same is true in some states with church's. Not only do we have more states to convert to CC, we have to get revisions of laws on the books that limit the ability of Students (who could be CC legal), teachers or parents to carry on the school grounds, and class rooms.

Where the gun was present, CO church, shooting was stopped. VA Tech, no guns he kept shooting!
