I kinda hate to ask this question, but I am looking for an everyday carry piece and I am interested in some valuable input.

I have narrowed my choices down to either a glock 26 or sig sauer P245(older version of the p220).

I want the glock 26 because I have a glock 17 which lends to the fact I can use some higher cap mags in the smaller gun, they share the same caliber, and both guns are somewhat similar in feel and exact in operation, which makes them user friendly in important situations.

I want the Sig P245 because I feel that it is about time for an upgrade to a .45 caliber, the gun is slightly slimmer in feel to the glock, which makes IWB carry more reasonable, I like the placement of the de-cock, and well I guess I kinda wanna just get a sig. The price seems right, this guy asking $680NIB{dual tone, night sights=good deal? Western, NC}, and I think I can get him to go a little lower.

Anyhow, beyond telling me I'm dumb for buying a gun due to its brand name, are there any other factors I am not taking into consideration.

Both are excellent guns, it boils down to do you want to go with a .45?
I'd look at a G30 or G27 if you already shoot Glocks. Switching grip angles throws off my point & shoot.

The P245 is on my list of very desirable, concealable .45's, but there is definately advantages to sharing mags & shooting the same ammo as your other guns. I recently narrowed my guns & ammo to 9mm & .40 so I don't have to carry so much stuff to the range (45 ammo is heavy) & I have 9mm barrels for my .40's for practice and .357's for extra noise.

I recently acquired a 26 Glock.Unlike some people, my hand fits it pretty well. I've handled the SIG but not fired it. I understand and sympathize with the desire to get a .45. I've had so many over the decades, but none currently. I'll probably get a 1911 as my next piece, but it'll definitely be odd man out. I've got 5 9mm and really hate adding another calibre to the holdings.

I'm a huge Sig fan. If I had my choice between the two, I'd normally choose Sigs over a glock any day. I have two exceptions: the Sig 239 and the Sig 245.

The 245 is not my favorite in the Sig line. I don't know exactly why, but felt recoil with that gun was horrible. I'd guess it was the short grip coupled with a high bore axis. I like Sigs, and I like .45's. Something here just didn't work for me, and I got rid of the 245 and got an H&K .45 compact. Awesome gun there, but that's beside the point, isn't it?

I'd jump on the Glock 26. I love them.

Those are two very different guns, so I am not sure what you are looking for. I had a P245 for several years and have shot a friend's G26. I have the G23 now.

The G26 is way smaller in every dimension than the P245. The Glock as a the same DAO trigger pull for every shot and the SIG has the DA/SA trigger with a manual decocker.

If you really want a .45 and the P245 is a good size for you then why the heck not? It is fantastic gun, accurate, reliable, and will last forever. It is a little more snappy in recoil than a G17 or a P220, but it is not painful or unreasonable.

On the other hand, if you want the smallest pistol for concealment then the G26 is significantly smaller. The P245 is just a tad longer and wider than my G23 (which is in between the full size G17/22 and the subcompact G26/27).

G26 is your choice.

If you really want a reliable/easily concealable side arm that can be treated like the work horse it is.

Truly, I forget the G26 is even on me when carrying in the thin MTAC. Of these three weapons...the G26 is my summer carry:

I like my sigs real well my glocks are OK but if you want to move up from the 9mm in a compact 45acp take a long look at the Glock G-30 or even the G-36 both real nice 45 acp pistols......

I would go with the Glock, the 45 is a bit bulky. The +P rounds are good and you have more of them.

The idea of the 45 being so much better than the 9 is bunk.

First of all the nine is easier to shoot, means 2nd and 3rd shots are going to be more accurate and if you squeeze off an extra one or two you will still have more in your mag than the 45 does from the git go...

Lighter to carry also. Glock has it hands down as far as I am concerned.

Regards:)

Thanks for all the responses. As I was saying, I want am everyday carry piece that holds more then S&W 642, but still manageable in a IWB rig. I know the two options I presented aren't exactly comparable, but just wanted to see the reasons for choosing one over the other.

Prob. end up getting them both.

I think they are both excellent choices, but given your immediate needs for an easy carry piece, the G26 seems to be a good place to start. I have had one for about a year now (about 2000 rounds) and it has been flawless in performance. Carry is easy too, it is compact, durable as a rock, and it's easy to shoot well with. It is my "always" gun.

I have a SIG as well, and love it to death, but the G26 is my "don't leave home without it" gun.

I have both the Glock 17 and 26

It's definitely a plus to have both because, as you say, you can use the longer mags in the G26 and both guns feel the same. The little Glock is very accurate for its size, and I can hit balloons with it at 50 yards with boring regularity. I added Meprolite night sights on both, as well as the little slide release extension. Most holsters will work for both, but if one is made for the G17 then it will be longer than needed, and if it's made for the G26 then the G17 will stick out of the bottom. Mag holders work for both mags. I recommend the Pierce grip extensions as they give you a pinky hold but don't hurt concealability one bit.
