I just received notice that my Kentucky CCDW permit is up for renewal in Dec. I just have to take the notice, a completed CCDW license renewal affidavit, Sixty dollars and a color photograph to the county sheriff. No problem with any of that at all. The only thing I don't understand is the photo has to be one that is developed from a negative. No digital prints are allowed whatsoever.

What is the reasoning behind this? I haven't take a picture with a film camera since the day I got digital back in the middle 90's. Now I'll have to dig out my Pentax 35 mm, buy a roll of film and probably new batteries, shoot the pic and have it developed for one picture. No big problem, I'm happy that it is so easy to obtain a CCW in Kentucky. Just don't understand why. Kyfarmer

Probably because, with the advent of photoshop type programs, it's MUCH easier to fake/manipulate digital photos than it is with traditional film media.

You don't have to take the picture yourself. Go to a local drugstore like Walgreens or CVS as they can do passport photos in color. That is what I do and it's easy, quick, and cheap.

If, for whatever reason, they won't accept this, I'd just buy a disposable camera, take the picture, and not even worry about digging out your Pentax, buying film, batteries, etc. The disposable will be cheaper anyway.

It's called Adobe Photoshop. It is a lot easier to modify a .jpg in Photochop than it is to modify a film negative.

Don't know about other counties in Ky, but in Jefferson the sheriffs office takes their own photo of a person. Not sure but don't think they would accept your personal pic for use in renewals since they charge 5 dollars for the photo. Hell the sheriff got to make a few bucks over and above the renewal fee.:)
I renewed mine a couple of years ago.

The old classic Pentex Got mine on R7R from Nam took some Great photos with that old guy but it stopped working a few years back I just cant part with it! Its like a old friend from Hell & Back!

Just drop by Walgreens and pay for a passport photo. That's what I do when it's renewal time

the walgreens near me is 100% digital even for passport photos.

How would they know whether the finished print was produced from a digital image, or a film negative?

Once printed I don't see how they could tell the difference.

I was in traffic court the other day and a guy was fighting a fail to stop citation with pictures he took. The judge asked him if the photos were digital and said that digital photos were not admissible in court because they could be easily altered.
