how come everybody goes flat-top these days for optics? does the front sight not get in the way?

I used to see these kinds of things in pictures a lot..

and now I see the RRA tactical mounts, which seemed logical to me..

but nowadays everybody keeps saying go flat-top. How do you guys deal w/ the front sight on an ar? do you just buy higher scope rings or something?

What if you want to buy an ACOG, which seems to have low mounts?
same for EOTech.. doesn't the front sight get in the way of the reflex picture?

Back Up Sights

The sights on my M4 are of the flip-up variety, so they don't get in the way of the optics. However, I can use them through the optics if the need arises.

The standard front sight tower all but disappears when using magnified optics. Stick your fingers out in front of a scope if you don't believe it. Low profile gas blocks, together with a flip-up front sight, are also a popular choice for dedicated optic setups.

For 1x optics, the front sight present in the optics sight picture is called a cowitness. Mount height determines the type of cowitness (absolute or lower 1/3).
