I see a lot of references to Mouseguns, so with the emphasis on the pick of Alaskan Palin as a VP choice, maybe we can coin a new phrase based on large game, Mooseguns.

What would you pick as your favorite Moosegun? How would you carry your Moosegun? What is the best round for your Moosegun?

I think it kind of makes sense, I really dont know how Mousegun came up in the first place....but I dont really see whats so funny about this.....maybe I have a poor sense of humor.....

It's a size/mine vs. yours thing...

Anthony C--If my cartridge is larger than yours and I want to make fun of yours, then yours is by comparison capable of only killing something tiny like a mouse. Ergo, it's a mousegun.

By comparison, my huge weapon with its relatively large cartridge is capable of killing something large and menacing, like a moose. Ergo, it's a moosegun.

The .32 ACP, for example, gets called a mousegun cartridge, even though some shooters like it and get really good results with it in bullseye pistol.

The ultimate moosegun would likely be the .577 Tyrannosaur, preferably in a nice light mountain rifle. (Such a combination would probably break or dislocate your shoulder with every shot.)

There. Now have I analyzed it to the point of no humor at all?? :)

Alright it makes more sense now, thanks for the explination, and yes, when I see somthing again, I will laugh

Alright, I guess I'll answer the actual question...

Probably a bolt-action .300 Winchester Magnum with a stainless finish, shooting heavy-for-caliber bullets.

There. That wasn't so hard...

Dude I'm just going to keep carrying the SRH 454 Casull with a 2X6x32 Bushnell Elite LER scope in a shoulder rig.

50-90 sharps..........in a 1874 sharps........just because I already own one

My uncle used a 1/2 ton chevy pickup truck. However it only works one time.

Lots of hunters call their guns "deer guns" or "moose guns", or "bear gun" or "home protection gun". Not new.

I would probably use my 270 win rifle if I hunted moose. But if I were buying something new, I'd look at a 325 WSM. That caliber has a lot of appeal to me.

You don't see ANY difference between "moose gun" and Moosegun???? What has become of our edumocation system?

I used a 7mm Rem Mag. Filled the freezers with a moose and two caribou every year.

Alaskan native, born and bred!

Moose don't need a lot of lead, it's mostly a question of what distance you'll be shooting at and what the terrain is like. For inside 50 a hunting handgun is fine. If the country is more open a magnum would be useful to keep trajectories flat. They don't need a .375 H&H. My neighbor out in the Mat-Su took a bull with a 150 grain 7.62x39. A 170 grain .30-30 Nosler or 160 leverevolution would be fine at woods ranges. They usually trot off, realize they're dead and fall over. Hopefully not in some nasty bog. Then the hard part begins!

Mouse to Moose - Snubbies, Bottom to Top (J-frame .38 - .460 Rowland)

Hmmm....can't seem to upload pics anymore

OOOXOOO;

Now in Wyoming, that method of taking is usually referred to as using the 30/40 Jimmie.

Half tons are for deer & antelope. Takes a 3/4 ton or better for elk & moose if'n it's gonna be a repeater.
