Getting rid of a junk gun

"The individuals who were "invited" to bring their guns in but didn't now will be included in the ongoing
investigation "

Big effing deal. You just tell them where you were when the crime occurred. How do they know who has a 40 and who doesn't anyway? All they have is recent sales from a dealer. This is rediculous. If you people want to behave like scared little sheep go ahead. But don't expect everyone else to do so.

If they steal an unsafe to fire gun and blow off some of their body parts maybe it will convince them to pursue a new way of life.

They would probably end up suing you for your gun injuring them.

I would never sell out by giving a gun to the police, even for gift certificates. I have an old .22 that is no longer any good and I'm going to bend it and throw it away.

I'd love to find a gun buy back program and show up with every crappy old air pistol and complete junk possible. I'd sell that, then use the proceeds to pay more for the good guns being traded in than the cops were.

That's exactly what happened during the DC sniper shootings. Not far out there at all.

Yup that's pretty far out there aint it?

Mm. I stand corrected.

It's still ridiculous to think you need a cop to get rid of a gun.

What! You really think you need a cop's permission to dispose of a firearm?

What's wrong with you?

That's right.

What about your friendly local pawnbroker?

He'll give you a receipt and keep a record of the transfer. I'd trust that paper trail a whole hell of a lot more than "giving" a gun to a cop - the first is unquestionably under the business records exception to the hearsay rule, whatever they give you in the latter is not. If the pawnbroker cuts you a check even better.

You may get a few bucks out of it, and the Pawnbroker will recycle it for you.

I've got a junk FEG PA-63 in Wyoming. I don't think we have gun buy-backs here (just moved here last year.) Anybody want it? I'm in Casper - come and get it.

I could use some wall hangers. If anyone's willing to demil it, I'd pay for it.

Me watching TV, seeing news item saying...

"All owners of X caliber firearm should report to..." *CLICK* (turns on Seinfeld)

(I originally posted this in another thread by accident. It was meant for this one.)

EDIT: I was asked via PM if I would do the same as above (effectively ignore them) if a letter was sent directly to me "requesting" I bring a firearm in for testing. The answer is, unequivocally, yep.

Might check with a gunsmithing school to see if they need a parts gun or a demo model.
This is the best option IMO a bad gun is still a useful gun. There was just a Thread not long ago looking for guns to donate, I cant find it though!!!

Ummm... that's a bit out there. Pretty unlikely.

its not unlikely in CT. after a neighbor complained of finding .50cal bullets lodged in his house and claimed they came from a range an article appeared in the courant that stated that the police knew exactly how many .50 bmg rifles were purchased in the state and they asked that the owners turn them in for ballistics testing to be done at a Mass. lab. A few turned them in and the police said they would be sending letters to the remaining owners asking them to cooperate and turn in the rifles. As far as I know most owners ignored the request, but the only way the police could have gotten the owners addresses was off of the 4473's taken from the states gun stores.

In this state it would no be too far-fetched to imagine that a judge might just issue a search/seizure warrant to go into the homes of all those .50bmg owners and forcefully take the rifles for testing.

In my neck of the woods, we would try to fix it or give it to a friend to play with. I don't trust most of our law enforcement.
