Your Favorite Gun Noises

I guess my favorite gun noise, or at least gun caused noise, is the ringing in my left ear since 1981 or 82. That was caused by shooting my government issued Colt Border Patrol .357 without hearing protection. No it was not shot at the range, so there was no time to put on ear muffs.

Background static < hiss..crackle> on a PRC25 handset and the words..."rounds out"...3 seconds of silence ..imediately followed by 4 distant reports....< Fah..WOMP!>...etc. etc. etc....!!;)....Sheer MUSIC!

I dig the metallic sounds of the operating rod/slide/bolt working on the M1 Carbine and Garand. Very satisfying.

Other faves:

Mag dump of subsonic on my M11/9 with its new suppressor...

The chop-chop of the H&K UMP .45 *drool*

The smooth shucking sound of the M60

The tactile, watchlike clicks of a colt SAA or clone when you cock the hammer

The clickety-shick of a Winchester lever action

The aftermarket flash suppressor on my Ranch Rifle ringing like a tuning fork after you fire it

The token "gangsta" at the driving range. You know. Baggy pants. Exposed buttocks. Glock "fohty" held sideways and above their head.

Dude! Where are you going to practice your golf swing??? :what::neener:

Now back on topic, I really like the sound of my Mossberg 930 cycling. Mmm...

I like the sound of the safety getting turned off just I am about to take a shot at something.

I like the sound of the Rem 870 pump action cycling. I also like the gassy sound of the AK piston in motion. I love the way my Glock 20 pounds in the core of my chest when I fire it indoors. And of course there is the sound of steel plates dropping that brings a smile to my face.

- The 4 clicks of an 1873 Single Action Army being cocked
- The deep BOOOM of .44 Magnum
- The rackety, yet totally business-like sound of an AK cycling
- The racking of the slide on a 1911
- The racking of a pump shotgun
- An MG-42 firing full auto
- The sound of the hammer falling on my CZ-452
- The loading of an SKS using 10 round stripper clips (ssscchhhluck!)
- M1 en-bloc clip
- The ticking of a revolver cylinder as you spin it, hammer partially cocked
- As a reloader, the SILENCE of no brass hitting the ground when revolver shooting :neener:
- PERSONAL FAVORITE: The giggle of my 2 yr old little boy when he sees me with one of my guns :D

Hmm. I am not sure if it is my favorite noise. But I have never heard another noise like it.
The M240 machine gun mounted coaxial next to the Bradley Fighting Vehicle main gun.
It has a very distinctive sound when being fired because it is relatively inside the turret. Sitting in the troop compartment during live-fire training we do not or did not wear hearing protection. There is no sound like it this side of Hell.
Also, when we were getting all our belt-fed ammo ready for a mission. Just hearing those rounds and links jingling. Mm.

Nowadays, the slide on my 1911 going into battery is what I am content with.

"Pew Pew Pew"

Actually, my favorite sound is pulling the muffs off immediately after a shot from my Mosin, and listening to the report echoing back. We were shooting in this valley once and it was amazing to hear the sound just roll down the valley for what seemed like miles.

My signature gives one of them away.
I like the sounds in the pits during a high power match. You can hear the bullet whiz by, hit the target backing and the impact area, and at 600 yds you hear the the bang after you see the impact.

I also like the ping.
