I spend part of my time in Florida and part in upstate NY. I would like to get a C&R license, but what happens when I live in two states? Does the collection have to be in one state only? I am sure someone has dealt with this issue before. Any advice or experience?

Ha-ha! :D

As you probably know, California’s firearms laws are many and complex. They confuse so many people in and out of the state that I have discovered it is often easier to acquire C&R firearms outside of California. I also came to realize that as an FFL holder, I can legally take delivery anywhere not prohibited by state or local laws.

While I did take advantage of this fact once, it proved more expedient to license my out-of-state address. I could find nothing that prohibited this move, and neither the BATFE nor the local sheriff objected when I submitted my application with a premises address in one state and a mailing address in another. Of course, this does entail maintaining two bound books and logging firearms from one to another when I move them between states.

My C&R has both my mailing and physical address on the form. I'd venture to guess you could list one address on the form for physical address and the other for mailing and your license would have both addresses listed.

Thank you Gordon for that detailed information.
Fascinating and great to know.I was completely unaware that this procedure was possible.
stevemis seems correct also.

As a corollary, can one individual have two C&R licenses? One for State 'A' and one for State 'B'? If Gordon has to maintain two separate bound books, in essence it's more like two licenses than one license with two addresses.

Yes, it means having two licenses in my case, though I’ve read about some collectors having deliveries made to their mailing addresses without incident.

By law, an FFL holder can take delivery anywhere in the U.S. The BATFE provides the example of a dealer who takes delivery at a storage location rather than his shop (licensed premises). If this is his regular practice, the dealer is recommended to license the storage facility.
