And this is why you NEVER meet at your home to sell anything.

Wal Mart parking lots are good, Starbucks, Home Depot......very public areas.

+1 on that.

What a fool, even if I was a felon I think I would be smart enough to not mention my history to someone.. at least he didn't get his hands on it.

I have a BOS that I've saved on my computer.
I did an acronym search on BOS and came up short. I'm thinking Bill of Sale considering the context. Is that what y'all are talking about?

I have sold several firearms and NEVER have anyone meet at my house....always meet somewhere where there are other people around. But not to many. Don't want to freak the sheeple out!

I have only sold one gun face-to-face. I advertised on THR, because I figured I'd be less likely to attract the riff-raff that way. We both agreed to make the sale in a public place, but since I was selling an AK-47 clone, we figured it'd be best to make the sale where we wouldn't distrub the sheeple - we just didn't want the hastle of having to deal with "man with an eeeevil assault rifle" calls :banghead: .

So we conducted the sale at a busy local range :p!

And I did use a Bill of Sale.

Here are a couple of examples:

Be vigilant for the next few weeks. Guys like that usually come back to do a B&E, when you are out. He may even get someone else to do the actual entry. If he dosen't come back in 2-3 weeks you are probablly ok. A good alarm, safe and a big dog are usually what's needed as the, "hear and see" stuff we don't do as well as them, although a kid just slammed into my garage door with a scooter and I had to wake up my Lab, good luck, and be safe.

You better think real hard about that. Your right to shoot ends when your life or the life of those you are defending is no longer in danger. You start poppin' rounds off at a car headin' out of your area and FL or not there's a good chance you'll be keepin' bad boy company in the FL State Hotel. As a citizen you're allowed to defend yourself and others when faced with lethal force. That's it. You aren't allowed (unfortunately IMO) to take preemptive action. You aren't allowed to use lethal force once the threat has left or is leaving the area.

I think a guy rolling into a deadend, blasting away and then rolling out, you can definately return fire. You have no way of telling that he isn't about to stick the gun out the back window and start blazing away again. Once lead starts flying, just fleeing the area isn't any sort of assurance the threat is gone, after all a gun is a long range item, and the attacker can stop fleeing at any moment and turn around and start shooting again.

Sure, if the person fleeing tosses the gun, THEN you might have a point about a bad shoot, but as long as the person has shown a willingness to shoot at you, AND still has a gun, no way to tell fleeing from tactical repositioning

I wouldn't ask the daughter to bring anything to the house, I would ask her to keep away for a while.

last thing i think they would want is any lead being sent back at them.

MOST ARE BAD AS THE DAY IS LONG (WHEN THERE IN PACKS)

When you fill it out and they see that it has current regristration that puts up a red flag and now you get to answer questions with them and possibly LEO. This happened in Surry about 2 years ago when the abusive husband got out of jail, some how had a licens plate(I dont remember the particulars)went to Dmv got the address and murdered the X-wife. I only remember this much because I went to school with the woman.

i've hauled off 30 cars in the last few months several with current tags and have never been asked for more than my id. and cometo think of it at least once no id. but she may just know me by now.

I buy and sell FTF with people who have a valid CHL--problem solved.

HOW do you ever really know? Guy could have a CHL from years back, and just became a convected felon. Do they confiscate your card? Doubtful. Probably just inactivate it in the system and send out a letter. The plastic card is meaningless to me really if it can't be verified. I would ONLY do FFL, ever.

427, I realise that you seem to be prepared, but I got hit in a high security building with 24/7 security doormen and attended garage, with cameras. These guys that have multiple arrests get strung out and don't think clearlly when they are coming down from their drug binge, just be careful. They aren't brain surgeons, and usually have an MO that they follow. It would be helpful if you could find out what his priors were for.

i know you should not sell things at the house,
BUT,
i have been working and parting out old cars for as long as i can remember back. i sell a lot of used car parts and 1-4 cars a year.some things you cant ship, been selling [parts for many years now, don't sell many guns at all but when i do sometimes it is at the house. guess i dont see it as any othere thing i might have for sell,
even a weekend garage sell will bring strangers to your home.

(someone here had that happen from a garage sell, some kids were casing his house buy showing up after the sell to buy something, i think the member said the kids got busted with all kinds of things and his house would have been on the list soon)

this was one of them times, but never inside the house for anything. all items for sell are out back or in the garage, and i always carry just in case.
Yes, you never know who will show up. Sometimes you can tell right away some times the dogs will pick it up.

i feel the guy that has a home FFL shop in the back room or a bate and tackle would be more at risk, when i first started buying guns there was an old guy that did sell out of his house, it was a room in the back of the house and you had to go through the frt door to get there.
always thought that was not to safe. and there is another guy here a class 3 dealer and his hours are 6pm to 10pm in a shop in the back yard. i think i dodged a bullet last night. and glad i didn't let $$$$ blind my thinking and the felon didnt get my gun,

as of now i have not heard anything from the law on what is going on but will be asking ????? sun or mon.

Here's one...why EVER sell a gun???

Couple of reasons, you might see in the trade section of the board I'm trying to get rid of a Vaquero. Really WTH do I want with a Vaquero? It's a niche market piece and well, I'm not part of that niche I guess, I don't want anything to do with it. It came as part of a package deal at the sort of price where you buy things don't need because you can't turn it down. Now, why anyone would want to sell an SKS is beyond me, but that's fine because I'm always up for buying one or four.

It doesn't seem out there to me. I have 5 cameras around my home and motion lights too. Camera systems are cheap and anyone can buy and set them up. You can find security camera systems at places such as Radio Shack or even Sams Club. The internet is a good place too. Try www.supercircuits.com . I've bought from them before and they have everything from beginner bargain systems to super delux Pan Tilt Zoom motion detecting infared cams.

...you have a point there, anything i sell at home (alot are car parts) it is all done outside or in the garage...
I made the same mistake, years ago, with some engine block of which I took a $20 bill as a deposit. The guy came back, after a couple years, to pick it up. I thought that he had lost interest, croaked or simply forgot where to go back and get it. So, I ended up leaving it at the curb, one day. Since, I had no use for it and I didn't feel like running another add. So, he shows up, one day, and I told him that since he never showed up, the block took up space and I wouldn't return the deposit. So, he got upset and eventually left. One day, shortly after, my dad's car wouldn't start up. Someone had cut all the ignition wires, overnight.
Here, in Germany, we live in a flat. So, I could do business from my door, without anyone knowing which parked car is mine and any private objects are behind a locked gate together with the property of other flat residents.
I don't know how it is over there, anymore. But, here you have to avoid doing business with the visible minority. They like haggling, if paying fully up front at all (I've heard claims about only having so much and I was asked to release the article, under the pretense that that person would return with the rest of the sum), and will try entering your apartment, house, garage or shop to case it out. I've got pry marks on my doors to prove it, after having trusted one to view my inventory

You can find some real losers anywhere, but the panhandle of Florida, as well as the former Florida Counties and Parishes of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana are were I have had every major problem, EVERY problem, in my job. I have been shot at (just over the line in Baldwin County, AL not far from the FL line), had many guns pulled on me, and even had a guy near the coast in MS threaten to shoot the helicopter I was flying in down (Forestry work). My grandfather thwarted a home invasion near Crestview, FL, back in the 1950's and then later in the 1990's thwarted an attempted car jacking in the same area (the family homestead, settled after leaving Sherman's house-warming party in Georgia, is in the panhandle), and mom had to run off some post Hurricane Camille looters with dad's Colt New Service revolver in Mobile, AL.

Some real nuts can be found anywhere, but panhandle nuts can pretty squirrely to begin with, and add hard core white trash to the mix you can get some real zingers.

Of course, some of the best people I know are from that area, too, so both ends of the spectrum can be had.

I last visited Florida in 1978. Daytona Beach was a living Hell, as well as inland FL. I liked the St. Petersburg area, though. Despite the old people. The sand was white and most of the people were decent.
At least you're armed there, though. Imagine living in post-war disarmed Europe, though and this was your mother or grandmother 2 minutes and 10 seconds into this video:

ASH SOUNDS LIKE YOU AND YOURs HAVE ATRACTED ALL THE NUT CASES.

i have a run in now and then and hope i never break your recored;)

Foresters often meet nut cases. Our homestead is near DeFuniak Springs (east of Crestview). My grandfather's 1st cousin lived in Pensacola (but he had no problems other than a Beretta 92 cooking off on the dash of his Volkswagon pickup truck in the 1980's), the rest of us steadily moved west, many of us keeping near the coast. The locations of troubles I or my family have had were: Holmes County, FL, Baldwin and Mobile Counties, AL, Stone, Hancock, and Harrison Counties, MS, and St. Tammany and Washington Parishes, LA.

My biggest troubles have come from real bad white trash and usually in the back woods areas. I have no idea about the Camille looters but know the rest area situation with my grandfather was with a gang-banger type.

But, again, some of the best people I know are also from the FL panhandle - salt-of-the-earth types. Some of my best memories, and some of my best role-models, came from the country stock between Bonifay and DeFuniak Springs, FL.

Don't spend the money on a lawyer. Go to the DA's office and speak directly with the DA or Assistants. Tell them the story.

If it's a three-time loser they'll want to know. Now the system is on your side. Be proactive for your own self interests.

Avoid posting statements that specifically show your intent to physically harm someone "driving by" if you believe they shot at your house. You've opened yourself up for problems with your postings should anything happen requiring you to shoot, now and in the near future.

While gun rights advocates are quick to blame the system (and rightfully so much of the time) it's foolish to not use the system when it's in your behalf. This is the time to protect yourself by being "the victim" and speaking with the DA's office.

Then any act of self defense has a history of your co-operation with the system rather than viewed as a renegade vigilante.
