This is just like the what can one man and a rifle do things. I am just wondering about this and decided it was time to open up a new can of worms.

GOD BLESS

Well, yes, I would imagine that he could open up a can of worms with it if he's a good shot.

The Warsas Ghetto "Uprising" Started with Either Two or Ten Handguns

"The Nazis, like the Taliban, had pursued a policy of complete gun prohibition, except for persons considered politically reliable. Yet as David Caplan explains in "The Warsaw Ghetto: 10 Handguns Against Tyranny" (American Rifleman, Feb. 1988), the Warsaw Jews had managed to obtain a few guns. And with these few guns, the course of Jewish history would change."

I recall reading years ago - I think it was in one of those Ballentine Books WW 2 series or a Ballentine paperback - that the actual first delivery of arms by the Polish resistance to the Warsaw ghetto was two handguns and six gernades.

Or if a pistol has those fancy picitinny rails he could just attach the latest can opener\light add-on. All though they're usually more popular for AR's... but back to seriousness the answer is "change history." whether its a big or small way isn't always immediately clear.

Let's see:

Start with even a POS like the FP-45 "Liberator". From there, if you're sneaky and good, you can get an enemy uniform and a rifle, shotgun or SMG.

From there, you can more easily take another enemy and disguise/equip a buddy. If you're lucky, maybe you can get the gear to bushwhack a supply convoy. All of a sudden, you've got the gear to equip an entire Resistance cell. Enough people repeat enough times, and you've got enough Nazis killed or diverted to give Patton and Monty an easier time on the road to Berlin...

And it all started with one little single-shot pistol... and the will and the cunning to use it effectively.

1. If you are Rambo, you can swing one-handed off the side of a cliff . . . and still shoot down a helicopter with a wimpy little 9mm handgun.

Then again, that's Hollywood, where any relation to reality is unintentional.

2. In the real world, John Hinkley nearly killed Reagan with a crappy RG .22LR revolver . . . and also paralyzed Jim Brady with the same gun . . . thus helping that poor soul become the poster boy of the "Brady Bill" movement.

3. Then again, my son's Glock 23 probably saved his life after he accidentally turned down a very bad street in downtown Atlanta Sunday night and ran over two holes created by some azz-zole stealing a manhole cover for the scrap money.

From out-of-town, with two destroyed tires and a beautiful girlfriend to face an agressive perp and a nearby gang of thugs, his ONE HANDGUN allowed him to remain forcefully confident so ALL could live to see tomorrow.

IMHO, this is when one handgun REALLY is special!

Dang, I'm so glad I gave it to him a couple of months ago!!!

Diamondback6:
Posts like that [about the Liberator] make me look for the "add to reputation" button you find on some forums.
I was thinking of a similar concept - "disarm one criminal and prevent ## further crimes" - but your well thought out reply trumps anything I can come up with.

As much as I like the story and concept behind the FP-45 Liberator I must point out that it has been blown out of historical proportion. Only a few of them were ever put into the hands of resistance fighters in Europe and nothing much happened. So in reality, it did absolutely nothing to defeat the Germans. It was however used more extensively in China and the Philippines but again, didn't really pan out to anything significant. I hate to be the guy that tells you Santa Claus isn't real but I think historical accuracy should be paid attention to.

Chuck, I was just citing the theory. Theory's all well and good, but it's all useless if the weapon can't be delivered, arrives into the hand of someone unwilling to use it, or reaches someone who lacks the "tactical trickery" to use it effectively.

Pistols have changed history, but their proper role is for fighting your way to something better--even if it means dispatching a foe and scavenging "something better" off him.

Dave, thanks. Here again, though, the pistol is the instrument, but there's a lot that has to come with it. And a case of irons airdropped in the woods outside Caen is useless if the people who need it are in St. Mere-Eglise (spelling?) and can't readily get over to get it...

He can save a whole crowd of people . . .

There is a South African man who defended the crowd at his church against several attackers armed with AKs and grenades. He had only a five-shot snubbie, which he emptied on the attackers with no apparent hits. Turns out, though, that he hit one of them, who told the other attackers they were being shot at and needed to leave. As a result, they killed only a few people in the crowd, when they had intended to kill hundreds. If you haven't read his book, Shooting Back, I highly recommend it.

well

he could use it to get a rifle, and then give it to his brother/ friend/ neighbor/ countryman go that he too can get a rifle... and so on

Homer Simpson used his to open his beer can, turn the channel, and add speed holes to his car. Homer and I quote " Now I know how God feels when he holds a Gun."

One man with a pistol can help make his community unsafe for criminals, and a whole lot safer for everyone else.
