Going to be getting some night sights put on my XDsc, it's my carry gun and i also take it target shooting regularly but usually keep stuff within 25-30yds.

Trying to decide between a set of Dawson Precision fixed tritium sights or the Heinie Straight 8's.

What's your guys' opinion on the 3 dot/2 dot dilemma?

i prefer the 2 dots, because i find it easier to align vertically.

3 dot sights, regardless of how popular they currently are, are slower to align...when shooting at speed...because your mind ses them as language and tries to "read" them

+1 for 2 dot. I was a 3 dot man, and have been converted to the darkside by the Heinie Straight 8. I like that I can do it with both eyes open. But mabye I just have wierd eyes not being able to do both eye open on 3dot???

Heinie. Love my Straight 8s. I think Novak does some 1911 sights with green dot front/orange horizontal bar rear. I'd like to try those too. 3 dots is too much!

Odd ball out here. :)

Three dot.

I've used both and still prefer the three dots. I've used three dots since they first came out, before there were night sights, and they are so ingrained into my brain now, they are my normal sight picture, and I have to consciously look for a normal sight picture.

As far as speed and alignment, I think more of this is what your used to and practice, and what your looking for from the sights. I find I get better hits at longer distances with the three dots than I do with the other set ups.

For me, the the two dot or bar dot take longer to acquire, because my brain is trying to fix the gap between them, trying to get a proper alignment. Theres no third reference for confirmation. With the three dots, I get instant vertical and horizontal alignment with three evenly spaced dots without thinking about it.

Like I said before though, I have more time on the three dots than many are old, and they require no thought for me. Those who are accustomed to the other set ups probably dislike the three dots for the same reason I dont get along with two.

thanks for the replies...i'm pretty new to handgun shooting (started last year) so I don't have either sight picture ingrained in me from years of shooting. I'll probably go with the Heinie's

if you just getting started, the best sight arrangement to start with is all-black fronts and rears

it teaches your subconcious the correct sight sight picture and is the most precise. you can always add dots later

Best "night" sight is a laser...bar none. I prefer two dot sights...actually post and dot.

Better yet - Big Dots. I love my XS Big Dots for self defense applications.

I must admit that when I get a Glock 34 for IDPA I might try the XS Standard Dot.
