So I'm hunting a good scope for a CZ 452 that Budsgunshop still hasn't mailed after almost a week ( but not here to talk about those geniuses), when I call our biggest local gunstore, one that I'd once swore I'd never donate another dollar to ( another story). I call on the phone and tell them that my brother got recently got a great deal from them on a Weaver V-series scope that he bought for me, that I love it and am interested in another Weaver in the V-series.
Guy on the phone says he's got a "classic 4-16 power with 42mm. objective for $199, it's a great scope.." . I tell him that may be more scope than I want on a .22, but ask if he knows where that "classic" fits in the Weaver hierarchy and what it's suggested retail price is. He doesn't know anything. So I look it up on-line, and the "classic" IS actually a V-series, the classic V16, and sells for $289 at SWFA,so I call back the next day asking about the scope, and no one knows anything about any 16 power Weavers. :banghead: I wait and call again the NEXT day hoping for someone else ( they have several employees). This guy also says there are no 16 power Weavers, but tries to sell me a 10 power V10 for the same price. I ask if it's parallax adjustable, and he says no, but it has "range estimation" ( I'm thinking mil-dots? ). Then, on a hunch,I ask if the "big end of the scope, the objective lens area" is able to be rotated and has numbers all over it. He says "Yeah ", so I tell him politely that that's an adjustable objective for correcting parallax. "Uh, OK ".
SO, I'm thinking he's looking at the V16 scope the first guy pitched me,and it's now in a V10 box, but the first guys' $199 price went with an accurate description of the scope, so I have no ethical dilema going in a buying the V16 in the V10 box for $199.
When I get there I see the V16 that all but the first guy said wasn't there, sitting under the counter, :banghead:and the V10 that was just described to me, doesn't exist, while I stand there like an idiot expalining the scopes and prices I've been quoted.
Live and learn ( again ). Guess I'll just call SWFA in the morning.
