Well, since Justin the mod said we could start a new thread and STAY ON TOPIC, here it goes:

Quoted from the last thread:

NJ = no mags over 15 rounds
NYS = No mags over 10 rounds unless made prior to Sept. 13, 1994
NYC = No pistols mags over 17 rounds and the magazine must not protrude below the pistol grip
MA = No mags over 10 rounds unless made prior to Sept. 13, 1994 and unless you have a (Class A?) license.
MD = No magazines over 20 rounds
HI = No pistol mags over 10 rounds
CA = No mags over 10 rounds

Also, Chicago and D.C. have even stronger restrictions.

and Canada = no semi-auto rifle mags over 5 rounds and no pistol mags over 10 rounds.

I'd like to add Virginia. That's right, the great commonwealth known for its open carry and shall issue CCW.

In Virginia, you can't carry a gun with a mag over 20 rounds without a Concealed Handgun Permit. This is in the same section that says you can't carry a gun with a threaded barrel or folding stock without a CHP.

These really only matter if you're like me and do not have a CHP and just Open Carry if I choose to carry. If you have a CHP you can carry what you like :)

MA = No mags over 10 rounds unless made prior to Sept. 13, 1994 and unless you have a (Class A?) license.

Close, but the Class A license is only needed to possess PISTOL hi-caps, a Class B is ok to possess RIFLE and SHOTGUN hi-caps. All Hi-caps do need to be Pre-ban, as indicated.

MD = No magazines over 20 rounds

Not quite. MD law allows mags of up to and including any capacity, provided that those mags were bought out-of-state and brought back. Said mags must remain in the posession of the original purchaser, unless they are sold/traded/given to another individual while out-of-state.

In short, posession of hi-cap mags is perfectly legal in MD, provided you play by a few rules.

Kingpin008 is right about Maryland. You can't buy, sell, or otherwise TRANSFER mags over 20 rounds, but there's no restriction on bringing them in from out of state, owning, possessing, and using them.

The nice thing about Maryland is you're never more than 30 miles from the state line!

The point is, here in Maryland, we can have as many 30, 40 round mags as we want.

We just have to make a short run to Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, or West Virginia to get them.

All of these these arbitrary, absurd, and unconstitutional "large capacity" magazine laws must be repealed in one way or another.

OH = no mags over 31 rounds

The revised code is the firearm firing more than 31 rounds total. With a magazine capacity of 31 rounds, you would be able to load up to 32 rounds if you include a round in the chamber. So, the maximum magazine capacity limit in the revised coade would be 30 rounds.

(E) “Automatic firearm” means any firearm designed or specially adapted to fire a succession of cartridges with a single function of the trigger. “Automatic firearm” also means any semi-automatic firearm designed or specially adapted to fire more than thirty-one cartridges without reloading, other than a firearm chambering only .22 caliber short, long, or long-rifle cartridges.

Also, though illegal to shoot more than 31 rounds through a gun without reloading, it is legal to own magazines and belts capable of being loaded to over 30 rounds (in OH). You just can't use them at full capacity.

I'm glad I live in South Carolina. I don't have to worry about silly magazine restrictions.

Yeah I live in NC.... sometimes I think our gun laws aren't so great having to have handgun purchase permits and such... then I see threads like this.

I don't know why people keep saying this ....

That is true only in certain areas .... the Commonwealth of VA is much larger than just the Cities of Alexandria, Chesapeake, Fairfax, Falls Church, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, or Virginia Beach and the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Henrico, Loudoun, or Prince William. I know that people from these area seem to try to forget that Virginia has a lot more land to the west of the Eastern Shore.

§ 18.2-287.4. Carrying loaded firearms in public areas prohibited; penalty.

It shall be unlawful for any person to carry a loaded (a) semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material and is equipped at the time of the offense with a magazine that will hold more than 20 rounds of ammunition or designed by the manufacturer to accommodate a silencer or equipped with a folding stock or (b) shotgun with a magazine that will hold more than seven rounds of the longest ammunition for which it is chambered on or about his person on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right-of-way, or in any public park or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public in the Cities of Alexandria, Chesapeake, Fairfax, Falls Church, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, or Virginia Beach or in the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Henrico, Loudoun, or Prince William.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to law-enforcement officers, licensed security guards, military personnel in the performance of their lawful duties, or any person having a valid concealed handgun permit or to any person actually engaged in lawful hunting or lawful recreational shooting activities at an established shooting range or shooting contest. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

The exemptions set forth in § 18.2-308 shall apply, mutatis mutandis, to the provisions of this section.

Free States of the good ol' south...
Bring what ya got...........Beta Mags, 30 rounders, fried chicken,
potato salad and sweet iced tea...a day at the range...:)

how is it that there's a 10-round limit in the entire state of ny but in nyc you're allowed a 17-round mag? wouldn't state law supersede city law? does anyone here live in the five boroughs and have a (legal) pistol mag with >10 rounds?

AZ-"what the heck are gun laws?"
Strange, it's not legal for you personally to carry a concealed firearm, is it? Sounds like a gun law to me. How about that pesky thing about where alcohol is served for consumption. While they may not be picky about magazines, Arizona has plenty fo gun laws.

bah, 100 round drums, belt fed, tequila (not unti the shooting is done), and carne asada
You're profile still says you're 17. How much tequila are you drinking after you're done shooting?

Sorry for the detour, it just seems silly to thump one's chest over gun laws, particularly when one is a minor.

So-called high-capacity magazines are not illegal in California. However, it is “illegal” to manufacture, import, sell, or give such large-capacity ammunition-feeding devices.
