White stuff on my guns

I've had a similar sounding thing happen to me. In my case it was mold caused by dampness. It actually took a while to get it to go away for good, actually had to wipe the guns over a few times with a diluted bleach solution, to kill the mold spores, before reoiling. Make sure your gun cabinet is dry inside, especially any foam or carpeting that may be in there. I wouldn't personally store any guns in any bags/cases unless you know they are dry though I do sometimes use the silicone-impregnated Sack-Ups. I'd recommend you buy some dessicant or a dehumidifier to wick out any moisture in the safe

Probably some form of mold, like Bonza said. Wipe down, sterilize with appropriate solution, store in dry place from now on.

I have used a vinegar and water solution to kill mold and mildew in the past. But, I have never tried it on a gun.

I don't know what it is, but I get it on plastic items(especially baklite) that are left in the basement for a long time. I think the "mold" theory might be correct.

Yes, just a mild bleach/water solution shouldn't harm the wood finish. You may have to scrub your webbing sling with the solution & an old toothbrush.

mild solution of 1/4 cup in a gallon will kill anything

The one sure fire way I know of rusting stainless steel is to use bleach on it.

Bleach and stainless are not friends, use something else where you can - light solution or otherwise.
