Just an FYI, the Tapco folding stocks may look cool, but they have quite a reputation for fragility. Surely someone will chime in and call BS but I had one go T.U. on a Saiga .308, not pretty. Not sure if all of their handguards have heat shields. You want heat a shield on the lower HG, trust me.

Good to know. Mine came with the Tapco T6 collapsible, which hasn't given me a problem, but also doesn't feel real durable, and I'd love to get a quality folder (with length suitable for a "real American" not a scrawny underfed undersized peasant conscript) for it.

Sometimes CDNN has this stuff. I got a set of authentic Bulgarian yellow wood furniture from them recently for $79. Blows away the Ironwood price if you're looking for that, and no wait.
There's another good operation that I've used and can't remember, I got a one-piece Choate stock for a Saiga from them cheap,( great unit! ) and they had the best deal i've seen anywhere on synthetic buttstocks in standard and NATO lenths.

I have a plum colored K Var stock on my Romanian Sar-1, and it took a LOT of time with a dremel to get everything to fit good. The holes in the stock to bolt it to the reciever don't come pre-drilled either, and I would worry about the plastic becoming too walled out after removing the furniture more than once or twice.

It's one inch longer than stock, but it's still about an inch shorter than I would like. The plum color looks uglier in person than I expected it to also, and I kinda wish I would've went with another brand, or at least another color.

All the Arsenal/Bulgarian guns come with K-Var stock sets.

As far as poly goes, K-var is one of if not the best. It is OEM on Arsenal rifles. They also sell some very nice wood for your milled rifle.

Ironwood makes some beautiful wood stock kits, I've had a maple set on a Hungarian stamped reciever rifle and a walnut set on my Bulgarian.


Stock fit goes like this, a stock for a milled reciever can never fit a stamped reciever. A stock for a stamped reciever can be made to fit a milled reciever if you are skilled and patient. More work than it's worth IMO.

The Tapco SAW grip is good stuff. They also make a fixed stock but I have no experience with them.

I used a SAW grip before I discovered the Ergo grip, it's the cats hind-end.

As the owner of a milled reciever Bulgarian rifle I can tell you that unless they are designed specifically for one, most parts will take some dremmel work to fit a milled reciever. Both the SAW and ergo grips took considerable grinding to fit.

Copes distributing on the net sells k-var furniture cheaper than k-var, and without the horrible shipping charges that k-var applies. I like copes myself.

I have a tapco SAW grip and I like it just fine. I think it was $17-18 or so.

their product is the scope rails they make, other wise everything else they sell is the same kvar stuff all the others sell.

The classic grip seems to be shaped more like the standard AK grip and not as hand-filling, shorter front to back. The AK pistol grip is shaped the same as their AR grip and just felt better in my hand.

I chose the ergo over the SAW mostly because of the grip angle. The saw was very comfortable and hand filling but the extreme backward angle forced the top of my hand up into the rear corners of the milled reciever. The ergo grip is a little less angled and just simply worked better for me. Also the ergo seems to be bigger front to back and a tad thinner in width. It helped that the ergo came in the "sure grip" configuration. This is similar to a Hogue rubber grip and feels grippy and comfortable.

I have one of the older hard plastic Ergo-grips, that I change on and off several AK's at random. But, I really like this grip, it blows away any standard AK grip for comfort and ergonomics ( hence the name).

+1 on the Ergo grip I also like it better than the SAW type.
