911 Tape from home invasion- Texas

She handled that pretty well giving the circumstances. I sure hope what she said on the tape does not condemn her or get her in trouble...

That's about three miles from my high school. Really quiet area, at least it was when I lived there. Right across the street from an elementary school, too. Jeez.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. I'm really glad the homeowners came out of this with just injuries and mental trauma. Looks like it could have been the end for them had they not taken action.

This is why you use deadly force, don't try to arrest. You open yourself up to more trouble by worrying about the life of the intruder than not.

One comment poster on the news link stated the intruder's death was being labled a homicide by the examiner. I wonder if the husband decided to (or was forcedto) finish him off when the wife went out to let the cops in. Maybe they label it such for the investigative purpose when dealing with an "in custody" death.

Not entirely gun related. Maybe this could be moved to Strategy under the premise of layered defence and using anything you got to stop an attack.

In Texas (probably most everywhere else too) any time one dies at the hands of another it's a Homicide. Homicide doesn't imply any evil intent, it's just one human killing another.

That's what happened here.

Then there will be a decision of whether it was justifiable homicide or criminal homicide. Here, every case of homicide goes to the Grand Jury, even if no one thinks there was any wrongdoing.

Guy enters a (presumably, from code requirement) gated property and enters the couple's home with a gun, demands their money. They offer no resistance, even telling him to take their cars, just get out. He then proceeds to beat them terribly with a pipe he had with him. When he turns to beat the wife, a scuffle ensues and proceeds through several rooms, finally ending in the living room.
During the fight, the woman ends up with a knife and has stabbed the BG repeatedly. They get him on the floor and sit on him while the wife calls 911.

The response time was ten minutes or so due to the distance. Even listening to the audio, you can tell it was an eternity. The operator did her best when the woman kept asking "where are they!!!"

Evidently the BG died when he was fighting the cops trying to cuff him.

Yeah, like 15 minutes away while those two home owners are trying to hold down some a__hole that has aids and tried to kick the woman. If either home owner was cut (or had an existing open wound) during the melee then they stand a good chance of developing aids, also. they probably were cut because the lady said that she had been hit multiple times with the pipe that the intruder was wielding.

This reminds me of the 20/20 TV show this past Sunday evening. A woman has a guy chasing her with a gun. She is on the phone w/911 and is driving to the police station for protection. The 911 operator NEVER lets anyone know that this woman is on her way!!@! A lady police office just happens to be by the front door as the woman is being chased on foot by the gun-wielder. The officer races out the door but seconds too late. The guy killed the woman and then killed himself.
If the woman had been carrying a weapon, the outcome might have been much different. If the 911 operator had done her job, the outcome might have been much different.

Notes :
1.) The 911 operator had been talked to before about being rude to callers and not doing her job correctly.
2.) An officer that was interviewed wouldn't say that the operator did anything wrong and, in fact, actually defended her actions!
3.) The 911 operator was very attractive. If that had anything to do with her second/third chances to keep her job and her being defended by the officer is speculation but, ya know, I'm just saying.........
