My new plinking rifle.

I recently bought a Krinker kit and installed my Ruger 10/22 into it. After a few modifications such as adding rails onto the handguard, and polishing the bolt, as well as adding a 8.5 inch barrel, I have my finished rifle.

It took a little more work and money than I wanted, but it was fun regardless. Up here in Canada you cannot buy the 8 inch version of the kit, only the 16 inch version is available (though it's sold out). So I bought the 8 in barrel separately.

I then found out the hard way that the shorter barrel does not allow the bolt to cycle properly due to lack of pressure from the expanding gases,shorter barrel=less pressure. I ended up having to sand down the end of the bolt that comes into contact with the hammer, as well as polish the trigger group by hand. It works now!

The firearms laws in Canada are not as strict as you may think. In fact California or New Jersey have tighter laws than Canada. We can buy anything from handguns to 50 cal rifles. Here's a pic of my M&P 40 I bought a few months back.

The thing I enjoy the most about the Krinker is that it is Non Restricted up here. In Canada a firearm is either Restricted(handguns, AR15's) or Non Restricted(hunting rifles, shotguns).
If its Restricted it can only be shot at the gun range, where as Non restricted can be shot relatively anywhere, such as a farmers field for example or outside city limits( prairie dog hunting). The reason these kits are so populr up here is that the AR 15 type rifle in Canada is Restricted and can only be shot at a gun range, it cannot be used for hunting which stinks. Our government made some lame laws awhile back all based on the evil black rifle syndrome. Black rifle=evil. Ridiculous if you ask me, laws made by uninformed people.

Norincos are freely available up here, from 1911's to Sig copies to M14's, you gotta love Norinco for providing a firearm at 1/4 the price of the original.

As for SBR, no I do not need any special lic, for the above rifle, as long as it is over 26inches over all length, it's considered a "hunting" rifle, and thus can be shot almost anywhere. If it was under 26in it is Restricted and can only be shot at a gun range.

Our gun laws are not too bad, though the one thing we are most jealous of up here in Canada is the fact our southern neighbors can carry concealed. It's ridiculous that we do not have the right to protect ourselves.

As for Garand prices, I'm not sure so I'll have to look into it and get back to you.

I love the US gun laws so much that at one point I tried to talk my wife into moving to the States. I had it narrowed down to either TX or CO, my decision was based on scenery, I love the rocky mountains, but I also love the gulf of mexico.

Maybe one day she'll cave in and we can move south. Though I need a job first and I read a green card can take me 5 years to get, I already work in Corrections and every place has a prison so I can get work anywhere. LOL

ChopMeat, here ya go, I went to a Canadian firearms website and found one for ya. 325 sounds like a good price. Thought I'm sure the majority of guns cost more up here. A Stag Arms AR15 costs approx 1500 bucks. How much do you pay for an AR15? I assume it's the same, anywhere from 1000 new up to 2000 for higher end.
