"This is your best arguement, but it is invalid because people living normal lives can't really hide these days."

it was an outstanding argument and its not even an "it coulda happened that way" search for the thread about the roanoke times doing this same nonsense and there was a woman who was hiding from her ex and he found her from their posting her info. also a parolee showed up to visit his po's wife and kids by seeing his name and address in the paper

it is still possible to live below the radar if you need to

101. You should be ashamed:

I think you should be completely ashamed of your behavior. Rather than go into a lengthy explanation of why, I'll leave you with this thought: When you are attacked for your money, possessions, or body, I hope one of the people you outed is there to save your worthless butt. But if karma is what it is, they probably won't be.
Posted and emailed.

O.K. So about 500 of the named CCW people on the published list pool their money and do a bill board with the name, address, and work hours of the "journalist", editor, and publisher of the paper. See how they like information about themselves just "floated out there" for every crook to think about. Can everyone say " hissy fit" ? I bet we can. :D

Mark.

I know...not very high road...but...

The word WOW has appeared here several times, but . . .WOW! that the staff at the paper just wouldn't get it. I just read all 98 (well, it was 98 at the time) e-mail responses that were posted over on the paper's site. Those people are really, really pissed off--excuse me, I hope I'm allowed to say that--and plans seem to be formulating for some kind of tit-for-tat response. That could just be their seething rage talking, and maybe they'll just let it lay where it got flung after they settle down, but I would not want to be one of the authors of that piece right now.

The same thing almost happened in my little Montana town—pop. 30K—a few years back. Same kind of article. The reporter called me up, having gotten the CCW list with my name and number, to interview me. Local press people are very nice here, no axes to grind or delusional Woodstein types acting out. However she did mention that the paper was thinking of publishing The List. I calmly told her why that was a bad idea, saying that my next conversation with the paper would be to cancel my subscription and that the call after that would be to the publisher with my thoughts on the matter (we knew each other in various professional and social contexts). She must've gotten a goodly number of similar responses. The article ran. The names didn't. It's part of the Montana thing that many own guns, with hunting probably the main reason. A lot of those people are respected, high-profile community leaders and no doubt some are "carriers". The pressure on the paper had to have been pretty strong to kill The List. Sometimes Montana does seem to truly be "The Last Best Place." Too bad there are no jobs here. [Zipperhead: You were so on with your post #75. Sorry. I'm in exactly the same boat. No wind in the sails, no direction to go. Sort of, like, dead calm.]

this was a big issue here in oregon a while back. iirc, the local sherrif refused to release the names of chl holders to a newspaper and was subsequently sued by them.

Public info is just that, public. Don't like it, have the laws changed. I have my name( and many other things) in several public database, some are as simple as a phone call or simple web surf away.

Example the CSLB has my name, address, contact info( with phone number, has to by law) my biz structure, Bonding company, and workmens comp company. All of which can be searched, by name, lic number, address, company name and even type of lic. Anyone that could find THR, could find out more then what was printed in the artical... I really wish it did not have all that info in it, but Just like when I got my CCW, I was told That info will be public... So forgive me if I don't "boo hoo" over something you knew could happen.( or atleast should have)

What I did when my local paper did the same stunt...

I sent MY local paper (Northwest Florida Daily News) a note advising them that if anyone tried to break into my house to get my guns, I'd have a moral duty to stop them. I would then sue the paper for enticing someone to try to steal my guns, and then causing me the mental anguish of having to keep my guns from falling into criminal hands. I would also advise the survivors of the criminal to do the same.

One of the things this so-called reporter left out of her breaking story is the obvious: Despite the high count of CCWs', there is no proverbial "Blood In The Streets". No shootings at traffic lights by Licensed carriers, no mall shootings because someone had to stand in line and had to wait,,, etc.

Why does the author not point this out? Write an opinion and submit to the paper pointing this out.

All you can do at this point is defend the right!

Because it doesn't fit the anti-gun media template right, the template being that all gun owners (especially those that CCW) are bloodthirsty angry rednecks just waiting and hoping for a reason to kill, shoot 'em up, show off their machoism, [insert stereotype here]. The "hit piece" is already written, and anything that calls into question, contradicts, or otherwise doesn't support their story is shoved to the side and ignored.

Sad, but true. And it isn't just stories about guns either.

Get the reporter's home address. Contact the other 600+ CCW carriers and organize a protest march. If 500-600 of you show up at her home carrying signs that say "Freedom of Information? Or Right to Privacy? YOU decide!" I think she'll get the point.

Let's put the shoe on the other foot. Submit an article to the paper including the names, home addresses and workplaces of the editorial and reporting staff, and note in the article that none of these folks was listed in the previous article as CCW holders. Ask them if they think they might be at risk of a lawsuit by any of those folks who were subsequently robbed or assaulted, and why?

Go after them...

I think some of you guys have some great ideas... and I think they should all be followed through on. Make these commie bastardos squirm a little. Protest in front of their houses. Find ANY and ALL information about them and publish/post it all over town/the internet... nothing should be sacred. There are a lot of journalists out there that are some of the most dishonest, ignorant and foul weasels in the world. They churn these folks out of college at a dime a dozen and they go out and pull stunts like this. They need to learn a lesson over this. And don't give me some crap about how technically this is entirely legal, blah blah blah. It's still a bunch of BS and a bad idea. Any amoeba with half a brain can see what this has done or has a potential of doing. I say fight these folks with no holds barred....:fire:

I think this literally stinks. It burns me no end that these so-called journalists can print whatever they want to at everyone elses expense no matter whose lives it ruins or whatever other consequences might take place and ,they are protected/can hide behind the 1st amendment and suffer no harm themselves. Wonder how she would like if someone got her SSN number and published it for all the hackers and ID thieves to get their hands on. Ask me it would just be just deserts.
