The batteries in my Gun Vault finally bit the dust....

In the process of changing them out...I realized that I had never changed them.....ever......

Checked the date I purchased the Gunvault,

it has been SEVEN YEARS! :what:

I don't recommend waiting this long....

but then again, I think I got my monies worth out of those Duracells.

I'm waiting for the batteries in my Stack-on vault to die too. I'm a little surprised they've lasted this long with almost daily use.

I believe you. I bought the Pink Floyd "Pulse" CD in 1995 that had a pulsing red LED in the case... it lasted 6 years steadily pulsing away! It's on the 3nd set of batteries (that includes the original ones) and I just put the 3rd set in a few months ago!

Forget the batteries, what do you think of your GunVault?

Ya, I know, the new alkalines are great but this is a gun forum, not a Duracell commercial so how is that GunVault working for you?

BTW, which do you have, one of the biometrics? That's what I'd really be interested in for faster access in the dark.

You put in a second set, let alone a third?

Maybe he really loves the whole album...flashy thing set up.

We are creatures that give in to our whims.

I didn't like the album if you care to know...just saying.

Maybe a commercial is in order here...

"pick your battery company" makes your gunsafe open more, longer than the other brand.

"Rely on us to help you keep you and your loved ones safe and armed!"

Sometimes the companies you hate do offer a superior product.

I've had the small-size, deluxe model for 6 1/2 years. Can not be happier with it. It is great. Holds one handgun, plus an old wallet with a few papers, prescriptions, credit cards, etc.

I have it bolted to the wall, low down, inside a closet three feet from my bed. It's actualy sideways on the wall, so the S&W 586 is upright, rather than lieing on its side.

When I first set it up, I got a little crazy with the combination. You can set some very complex combinations with it, and that's what I did. That was a mistake. Some of my numbers were "double entrys": two buttons pressed simultaneously. But if your timing is off even a split second, you'll get a false entry. I had the combo in "muscle memory", and eventually forgot it with my "concious memory". That is, I couldn't open it if I thought about it, but my fingers had it down cold. But occasionally, I would fumble those double entrys. Well that was a bad set-up.

So I changed the combination to something very simple, with all "single-entry" numbers. I can open it very quickly, in the dark, by feel. In fact, the way it's mounted, with clothes right against it, I can't see the key pad anyway: I have to open it by feel.

Some people open them every night when they turn in, and close them in the morning. Others only close them when they leave the house. I keep mine locked at all times, but feel confident I can get to the contents pretty damn quick. It's a personal assessment.

Anyway, I feel no need of the "biometric" option. I prefer simplicity, and I'm very confident in the speed and reliability of the keypad.

But it's nice to see they have a number of options, and I think they're pretty affordable. I recommend them highly.
