I bought a Keltec PF9 the other weekend and finally got to take it to the range today. My wife and I both shot it. It seemed pretty accurate but had several FTF. Not sure if I've got an issue with the gun or ammo or if it just needs a little more "greasing up". My wife didn't like it very much. It left a mark on her hand from the recoil. We put about 60 rounds through it with probably 6-7 FTF. I'm not happy with it nor dissatisfied. Will clean and lube it good before the next trip and see if I fair any better before I pass judgement on it. Did learn a couple of things though. Not going to be a gun for my wife. She shot my Taurus 24/7 afterward and did better with it and no pain inflicted. Performance is going to have to improve before I start taking it with me for protection. Bought it with plans to get my CCW and use it for that, but we'll see. Any suggestions or ideas?

Did you field strip and properly clean & lube the pistol before you fired it?

What type of ammo was fired? Wolf or Federal? JHP or FMJ?

What type of failure? Fail to Feed... Fail to return to battery... fail to eject the case.

We need input

Yeah, I'm curious too.

There's a gunshow this weekend, and I'm thinking about buying one. The asking prices at the last show were pretty consistenly about $260, do you mind sharing what you paid for yours?

I'm obviously not the OP, but I just bought one on Saturday, and here I paid $229 used. There was another used one priced at $249. Brand new the shops around here list them at $289. This is in Portland, OR FWIW.

Sorry went out of town and just got back. Paid 270 out the door tax and all. I fieldstripped it and did a quick clean and lube. Thats why I said I was not sure that it was lubed good enough. Fire some Federal HI SHOK JHP and some Winchester FMJ. Also cleaned out some odds and ends ammo I had in my bag. I fired two handed and they were failure to feeds. I'm gonna field strip and reoil this week and try to get back to the range. I'll repost my results after the next trip.

Don't bother. Either you will have to polish the feedramp, or keltec will.

Either way, your going to have to smooth it out to use those HPs.

Keltecs kinda have this reputation of having to go back to the factory once to get it dead on.

My PF9 hasn't had the ramp polished and it feeds all but 147g's fine. The only time mine FTF's is near the end of my range trip and I limpwrist it.

I took my own new pf-9 to the range yesterday. I had about 15 fail to fire/feed out of 100 rounds fired. I didn't clean the gun at all before taking it to the range. Both WWB and Federal Hornady hollowpoints were fired, and both resulted in FTF/FTEs

I'm thinking that I was limp-wristing the gun too much. It hadn't occurred to me while on the range that limp-wristing was an issue. I tore up the skin on the inside of my thumb's knuckle pretty good while shooting, which is probably an indicator of limpwristing. I also thoroughly cleaned the gun for the first time, last night after the range.

Next time I go to the range, ill have a serious death-grip on the gun, and see if the problem persists.

This thread makes me really glad that I spent the extra money and went with the PPS instead of the PF-9. Seeing as how I can only afford to have one gun right now, I would be really disappointed if it tore up my hands whenever I shoot it. The PPS works better for my growing range addiction.

I see a lot of people here blaming themselves for the failures of their firearms. It seems to me the guns simply lack quality.

I would be appauled if my Glock had 15/100 failures even the first time I shot it!

I've never seen a Glock that's as thin or light as a PF-9. Nothing wrong with Glocks, just like there's nothing wrong with apples and oranges. Just don't be surprised when your apple doesn't have that citrusy goodness of the orange. It's a small gun and limpwristing is definately an issue. Just hold on to it tight with a good push/pull grip to lock your wrist, and you're good to go. I had mine out for it's first (for me) trip to the range, and had 100 flawless rounds through it. I couldn't be happier, and I trust it 100% to do it's part if I do mine.

Second trip to the range. Went a lot better. I cleaned and lubed it good before I went. Put 7 Federal Hy SHOK JHP through first with no problem. Then I put 50 FMJ I bought at the range through it and had 1 failure to feed. I then switched to some Winchester FMJ that I'd bought at Wally World and had about 5 failure to feeds. All in all about 100 rounds through with about 6 failures. I'm wondering if it wasn't the ammo on the Winchester rounds or maybe I was getting tired and was limpwristing some on the last ones. I'm feeling a lot better about the pistol now. Maybe it just needs a little breakin. Think I will stick to FMJ ammo for now. Gonna do another good cleaning and lube and try to get back to the range again soon.

I don't have a PF9, but I do have the P11. I stripped it down when i bought it new (2001) and did what they call a "fluff and buff" (can be found here http://www.ktog.org/tecwerks10.htm). I then took it to the range and broke her in. After firing 300 rounds of various types of ammo with no failures of any kind, I put her into service. Haven't had a problem. Please, give that a try and let us know how it works. Also, have you tried a different mag?

Limpwristing is the most over used term on the kt forum from people that have issues. It's never the guns fault. If u build a gun that is very prone to limpwristing, then it is a design flaw, IMO.
