I have a situation and need help making an educated decision. I ordered 2 M1 Carbines from CMP and got them today. The info for both is below:

1. Inland barrel & inland receiver - Barrel 11-43 Gauge=3 SN:928227

2. Underwood barrel & inland receiver - Barrel 3-44 Gauge=3 SN:6397057

I viewed the barrels with my light and they look identical. The stock and metal are similar.

I have to get rid of one of them so says my wife. Which should I keep. I would think maybe the total Inland combination but the Underwood/Inland has a higher serial number and thus newer and maybe better condition. You cant tell though. If anyone has any input I sure would be appreciative. I hate to make this darn decision. sheesshhhh.

Throw them both in the air and sell the one that hits the floor first. Neither is worth more than the other.

If the stock and metal finish condition is the same, and the barrel condition is the same, then these two carbines are worth the same. Both of these have been re-arsenalled at least once and neither have all original parts.

Personally I would keep the Inland/Inland just because the barrel matches the receiver, but it is not a big deal.

Sell them both to me for a low, low price. Then tell your wife you have to buy at least one more new gun because you were robbed!

Inland made many many many more than underwood, so I'd consider keeping the one thats less prevailant.

Condition dictates that if both are the same, than the matching one is more desireable. Keep the Inland. Although they made many more of one, time marches on and the supply of original WWII weapons is diminishing. Everyone is expecting a major flush of weapons on the market once the "old guys" start dying off. Well they have been for years. No major market glut. If the receiver was an Underwood also, than the Underwood hands down. By the way, has the wife shot one yet? Give her the reason why she needs to keep both examples of history, some say the country's finest hour, then give her the Inland. That shows her she gets the better of the two. How can she refuse.;)

Tell the wife they are your SHTF guns and you need one for the left hand and one for the right. Seriously, if you bought them from CMP, I would hide one and tell the wife you sold it and give her some cash to go buy a nice pair of shoes. Later you can pull the other one out and say you bought it for $50 from some little old lady.

Deceitful.......but it might just work.......

Do what I did. Get your wife to shoot one. As soon as she does, she'll want one, as they're the perfect rifle for a woman and your problem will be solved. My wife's M1 Carbine now sports a dot sight where the upper handguard used to be and she's wickedly deadly with that thing. Uses Remington PSP ammo for self defense and any sort of pest "critter" as she calls them.

Regards,

Dave

Funny thing. I let my wife read this and she was impressed with you guys. LOL. go figure. I get to keep the extra carbine. SWEET!!!!!! Thanks guys.

I was going to say "sell the wife, and get more guns"!! ;)
But sounds like you have a "keeper". Take her out for a nice dinner
and maybe a movie.

Man!!:( I just brought home an excelent example of a Chinese SKS Paratrooper and my wife stole it for herself:mad:. Oh well, at least I get to look at it.;) Of course it makes me nervous about the German Mauser I have on layaway.:scrutiny:
