I finally found a chest rig for shotshells

are these... TACTICAL boxers? coyote tan with a Velcro fly and integrated tourniquets?

Looks practical and not too expensive. Good for grab-n-go. I went cheaper with a Swiss gas mask bag for shells. I think I'll add a mag pouch to it after seeing the chest rig, though.

$40 dollars to carry 12 Shells......

Looks like something that might be useful for an extended hunt or something, but not much else. I would think a GP pouch would be more useful then this, especially for the buy in fee ($40?). I suppose it could work, but if I think I need more ammo than what's in the gun, then I need another person with a gun more than I need a vest/belt/bandoleer, at least as far as HD is concerned.

Now, in some sort of riot situation where I was moving through bad areas or standing guard over home/shop, well then it's a different story. Just seems a much, much better item for preparation than reaction.

I've heard these bandoliers aren't very good at retaining ammunition, and as soon as you start really moving, you're going to start flinging shells everywhere... does anyone have any experience with them? Is there any merit to that fear? That's what's always kept me away from them.

i've heard tell in the past people use to put various items in things called 'pockets'. and they could take things out and put other things in as their needs changed. of course this was before specialization.
except to play the games (IDPA CASS etc.) the accessories i have accumulated are seldom, if ever used in the real world. this is what i would call 'a useful' and if it works for you, if the price is worth the pleasure, enjoy

Blackhawk has one as well. Theirs has belt keepers to keep it in one place, and is less expensive.

I just thought I'd post the offerings from these folks here. The Shotshell rig is about half way down the page. I cant give alot of info on them, but i was reasonably impressed w/ the M14 version that they make. I only used it for about 3 weeks, and then had to return it to it's owner.

I figure the two pockets let me carry buck and slugs seprately. IIRC it will hold 50 2.75" shells in each pocket. It has been a while since I have filled it up to capacity.

By allowing him to have access to ammunition.

12 gauge buckshot is much more effective at getting someone to stop doing something than pride in one's appearance.

Sooo....drop some gear. I mean, ok, if you want it then go for it, but make sure you practice with it just as much as you do with the firearms. You don't want to get shot because you were fumbling with some harness. That would be embarrassing.

ooook... Might want to lose the rig and go with just those heart filled boxers when a lawyer shows up with a camera.....

I just don't get it myself. My shotgun has a 6rd sidesaddle and flashlight. Really, in almost all cases, I'm good to go right there.

The cellphone is in a clip-on bracket and has the earpiece plugged into it when I get into bed.

If I want to grab the surefire to go along with it, it has a lanyard.

If I go with the 1911, it's in a paddle holster and so are the spare mags.

I bet I can pop a paddle over my waistband a whole lot faster than you can get into that chest rig. Especially at 3am when your just woken up and need to react quickly.

To me, it just doesn't really seem to be a speedy way to have extra ammo available at 3am. So that's why I think it is really more of a tacti-cool accessory rather than a functional necessity.
