A stealth rifle for Urbanites based on the H&K SL 6 except it would have a solar charging red dot sight, buis, 10,20,30 rd mags(for when you need to be low-pro or full-out tactical),forgiving tolerences,mil-spec toughness, sporting style syn stock, etc. Basically a civilian looking rifle with SHTF capabilities.

M41A Pulse Rifle

The M41A Pulse Rifle is the standard assault rifle of the Colonial Marine Corps. The M41A is a reliable, solid, but aging 10mm light automatic weapon with an underslung 30mm pump-action grenade launcher. Standard ammunition for the rifle are 10mm caseless APS rounds. Alternative ammo loads of SAPHE rounds for soft target scenarios (eg. Bug-hunts) are also available. The grenade launcher fires standard M40 HE type grenades, but can take any of a wide-range of loads from HEDP (M38), Baton Rounds and Chemical Rounds for anti-riot operations.

M56 Smart Gun

10mm automatic squad support weapon. Ammunition is 10mm caseless selectable fuse ammo (APS/SAPHE). 310 round ammo drum. 1200rpm. Mounted on an articulated operator's harness, slaved to an infrared tracking system. The breast plate that is part of the articulated weapon harness covers a small hardwired computer that runs sophisticated targetting software. The gun cannot fire itself, but adds significantly to the operator's skill when the gun is in "smart mode". The breastplate also acts as PD 3 / DR 25 light clamshell armour.

Mauser all the way.

For me it would be a Mauser 98 receiver (Colombian long action originally 30.06) 24" Shilen barrel in .308win,Parker-Hale bolt assembly,Zastava adjustable trigger/safety assembly and P.A.W.S. aluminum triggerguard w/engraved floorplate. Receiver cleaned up for Redfield/Leupold scope mount and Millet rings. Leupold VX-1 optics. Bedded in a Remington laminated stock for the Model 798 rifle. Metal is glassbeaded with matte bluing. I am actually building this rifle now. Also building similar rifles in 30.06, 257 Roberts and 7.62x39.

Hey Sarduy, the Robinson XCR is exactly what you have proposed, only much improved over your version, losing the crappy AK safety, etc. The XCR *IS* the ultimate hybrid of AR15/M16 and AK47. In light of that, do you wish to re-think your answer? ;) :p

Carbine Williams's last project before he died, fully auto 22 mag, so strong, it will pull over a weight attached to the belt. fed a 10,000 round belt continously for govt. generals, non stop , without 1 failure or stoppage. when the test was over, within 30 seconds, the bbl was held by an open , non gloved hand.
I'll take that.

I'll take one too!!

I'd like to do an autoloading rifle chambered for the .308 family of cartridges.

I'd like it to be built with the absolute minimum weight achievable. Maybe around 6lbs unloaded and unscoped.

It might be doable if it was AR-10 derived, with a CavArms style polymer lower/buttstock, an ultra-light carbon wrapped barrel, carbon fiber float tube, etc.

if you could build any rifle what would it be?

A MK14 with a standard profile 18.0" chrome lined barrel
in an extra light synthetic/carbon fiber GI profile E2 stock.

.

Ultralight bolt action

Built around short action cartridges such as the 6.5 Grendel. I six and a half pound, scoped rifle would be a dream to carry and easy to shoot well.

I'd like a folding stock(not Tapco or ATI) SKS with the chinese 20 round fixed magazine, a permanent rear mounted scope rail for a quality 4x compact scope, and tech sights. No bayonet, cleaning rod, etc. I'd use it as a backpack/trunk get home rifle.

A lowered (about 8 inches) Black Hummer H2 with a 5 inch-38 Naval Rifle sticking out the windshield!!!!;);) Urban Assault Vehicle.....:D

I would like a small, fast working bolt action with a detachable magazine, in a flexible caliber.

Something like a No. 5 Jungle carbine in 6.5 Swede or 25-06 or something. Not sure how the short barrel would work for those calibers, though.

I want a simple rifle good to 150 yards with ammo found everywere like my Ruger .44 mag carbine easy to add a scope, good knock around rifle case I meet a black bear or HD trouble..

So a Ruger semi-auto .44 mag with 10 + 20 round mags would do it for me..

Easy....a Solothurn or Lahti 20mm, who has the parts kits!:D

I would settle for a home made .50 build, have skills but don't have that kind of money right now.:(

I wouldn't have to build it. I'd buy an HK PSG1 if I had the pocket full of cash required to make the purchase. :D

Hm. What would I build?

Here are the specs:

1. Nesika Bay action, right bolt, right port, coned bolt.
2. Kreiger 26 inch barrel, medium/heavy contour (.950 muzzle diameter)
3. Chamber it in either 6.5-06, 6.5x284 Improved, or even 6.5x308 Improved.
4. McMillan A4 stock, bedded
5. Harris swivel bipod
6. NightForce 8-32x56 NXS, with mil-dot reticle
7. Jewell trigger.

Or, just for giggles, a 1928 Thompson SMG, chambered in 9mm!

Ruger Mini-14 with chrome lined chamber and 16inch barrel, will take AR-15/M-16 mags, with bayonet lug and M-16 style flash hider

I have several custom guns done to my specs: M70 in 338-06,M94 custom in 38-55, M98 in 7.92x57, M98 intermediate length in 7MM-08, TC Contender W/custom 6x47 barrel, M98 in 35 Whelen, Customized Marlin 1894 in 357 Mag, I have a brand new in the box 23 year old Interarms Mark X action in the safe that I haven't decided on, and 3 Military M98 actions ready to receive barrels but haven't decided on anything for any of them. Decisions, decisions!!!!!!!!!!!

Being a Mini fan, I can agree with some of the original post, but I find nothing wrong with factory Ruger 20-round mags. My Mini-14 GB, 580-series, is very close my perfect rifle for so many purposes.

I don't need to get all fantasy-minded with my idea of something I may build soon. I will start with a Marlin 1894 in .357 magnum, and render the safety totally inoperative, so the thick Texas brush or a car seat cushion cannot push the safety button to the "safe" position. (There is a set screw that can be tightened down really good, freezing the safety in place.) I might remove the crossbolt safety entirely, and replace it with a bolt custom-made for the purpose, or a custom sling attachment of some type. Then, it will get a better open rear sight, or perhaps an XS Sight set-up, and/or perhaps a scout scope mount and appropriate optic. I as recently examining a Steyr Scout, and the scout scope set-up solves some minor vision problems that have been creeping up on my ability to use open sights.

To take things a step further, it is possible to modify the buttstock mounting system to a pull-bolt style, which can enhance accuracy. Of course, there may be no need to do this if the rifle is accurate enough as-is.

Why a Marlin .357 rifle? Well, a friend did some of these things with a Marlin, and chronographed several types of .357 ammo at amazing velocities. He hunted various critters with this combo, too, until, unfortunately, he lost his Marlin to a burglar. This guy used to be a co-worker of mine, in law enforcement, and he knows his way around all manner of black autoloading rifles and accurized long-range rifles. His little Marlin seemed just about perfect. I have several .357 revolvers around, which simplifies ammo logistics. The Marlin is certainly slimmer than a Mini-14. I had better stop babbling, and go visit the dealer. Those 1894 Marlins don't usually stay there long.
