I've been trying to work up a 9mm load using Remington 147 gr. Golden Saber JHP bullets. My currently load is 5.0 gr. of Power Pistol with a C.O.L. 1.140

I was seating the bullets to a C.O.L. of 1.155 but was having jamming issues.

Last weekend I finally got a chance to try some of my loads in my CZ 2075 RAMI (I had been using them in my P99). Unfortunately they are still causing to jamming issues.

My question for you folks is what load are you using for this (or similar) bullet? What is your C.O.L.?

Thanks in advance.

I use 3.8 WW231 @ 1.138 and they run fine in all my guns.

Your 5.0 PP should also be plenty fine to run any pistol, as well as your COL.

Makes me wonder what kind of jamming you are experiencing?

The GS bullet is unusual with the driving band at the base and most of the projo being a bore rider. This makes for an odd situation when trying to crimp the finished round. If you are pushing the case mouth to the bullet, you are crimping too far. The proper round should have a touch of air around the mouth...so to speak.

My ammo measures .377 at the mouth. If yours is significantly smaller, you might get into headspacing troubles. That is all I can think of at the moment to help you.

OH! That sounds like magazine trouble, or the mag having trouble keeping up with the slide velocity.

Looking at the Alliant load data, your 5.0 PP is their listed max. Have you tried backing it down a tad to see if it slows things down enough to work? Might give that a try.

Does the pistol function properly with other ammo? Also might be something it doesn't like about the large hollow point of the GS.

Yeah so far the pistol has functioned flawlessly with all other ammo I have tried with it. I've been getting the failures to feed with both magazines (one is 10 rounds, the other is 14).

The reason I suspect it might be due to C.O.L. is if I unload the magazine by hand I can see where it starts to bind due to the nose of the bullet hitting the inside front of the mag.

I doubt 5.0gr of PP is the problem. You can run ammo that is considerably hotter than regular SAAMI spec in a Glock and it'll still function. (I'm not recommending you do this, btw.) I'd be more suspicious of your OAL. I don't think I've ever run a JHP in a Glock any longer than 1.135", and most book loads for JHPs call for shorter, like 1.100", if I recall correctly.

Try to bring those things in a little bit on OAL, I'm betting that'll fix things right up.

I'll try shortening up the C.O.L. to 1.135" or so and see what happens. My only concern with seating the bullet deeper is compressing the powder too much.

Power Pistol is very forgiving. I wouldn't worry about compression at all.

FWIW, I used to get nosdive jams in my Glock 23 with book max Power Pistol charges and 180 gr bullets. Putting in an increased power recoil spring solved that.

But, .40 has quite a bit more recoil impulse than 9mm, and Glocks in both of those calibers use the exact same recoil spring weight, so I doubt that's relevant to your issue.

I had some vague recollection of running 147gr JHPs with a hotter charge of PP than the original poster. The Speer 13 manual lists a max of 5.0gr, but Modern Reloading lists a max of 5.7gr with an OAL of 1.140". The load I ran was right at max. I say if you're going to stick with 5.0gr, you can easily bring in the OAL with no fears of over pressure. If you're going to try for hotter, work up to it. But as has been stated, PP is pretty forgiving, so don't worry too much, just follow all the usual guidelines.

BTW, that 5.7gr loading under a 147gr JHP was pretty stout and had a lot of muzzle flash. It was pretty awesome. :)
