Any comments would be appreciated.
The criteria used was a show where guns were commonplace if not wholly central to each show's story line. Also a show had to be rated in the top 15 of all shows at least 2 years during this time period.
A few had to be left out due to max limitations.

Bonanza

Me and my brothers watched this every week. Lorne Greene was my grandfathers cousin. My father loved Have Gun Will Travel. I loved Laredo and Branded too.

Duke,

I have too many favorites in westerns, comedies, news programs and 'police and/or spy shows' from that ERA! Grin. Three stations, eh? Rabbit ears. :)

My hunk a roo ni was CLINT EASTWOOD all of those years especially in his Dirty Harry movies = later time frame but I fell in L O V E with him as a kid in Rawhide!

I may have to figure out which box to check now. Decisions, decisions! Ha!

Take care,

Catherine

PS - Guns used in the western shows~~~

What guns were USED in the western shows?

I voted for Rawhide (Clint!) although I liked many other shows listed in this poll.

What guns were used in "Rawhide"?

Thanks.

Catherine

Gunsmoke- Matt Dillion got $^!t done. There was always the sense that real justice was served at the end of every show.

Other favorites in the following order:
Bonanza
The Virginian
High Chapparel

We watched Bonanza every week without fail, back in the '60s. At the time I was in grade school. I didn't realize that everyone was toting percussion revolvers, which are my favorite handguns due to fun factor. I just noticed that recently.

Unfortunately, i'm a model 1980 but I did watch Bonanza, Lone Ranger, and Gunsmoke (think Nick-at-Nite)...favorite though was probably Lone Ranger...short and good plots!

I loved Have gun will Travel, The Lone Ranger, and Zorro .

As far as Rawhide, Clint has said he hates that show and the character he played.

Gosh, there's too many to pick from but I guess I'd have to go with Gunsmoke. Really good script writing and a long running show.

BTW, you forgot 'The Streets of Laredo'!

Even as alittle kid I thought The Lone Ranger was a doufus. To me it seemed irresponsible to shoot at the gun instead of the bad guy. Then there is his [and others] habit of holstering his gun and fist fighting the bad guy when he ran out of bullets.

Paladin on the other hand.....

Have Gun Will Travel

I'm taping the Mavericks in order on the Western Channel. There were 2 years I never saw when I was in Berlin 60-62.

The Rifleman!!!

Come on ladies and gentlemen...vote!....for the Rifleman!

Actually I liked most of them but The Rifleman was the favorite.

Top 5:

The Rifleman
Bonanza
Gunsmoke
Big Valley
The Lone Ranger

Cisco Kid was a good one too.

I love old westerns. Glad Encore Western Chanel exists.

I have every Rifleman on DVR and I'm transfering them to DVD.

Shows I love:
Bat Masterson, The Rifleman, Bonanza, Maverick, Rawhide and the Wild Wild West.

Two that I niver missed were Johnny Yuma and Yancy Derringer. I really liked Jock Mahony in Ner\w Orleans.

I voted for The Riflemen. I love the way he shot his rifle. He also had a lot of family values when it came to his son. I just loved the show. Chuck Conners will be missed.

Lots of good shows. I voted for The High Chaparral, but I was also very fond of Have Gun Will Travel.

Lone Ranger among the ones not in the poll. I was also a great fan of Zorro, although I don't consider it a western in the traditional sense.

Another good one not mentioned yet is Cheyenne.
