Guns and Banks

I'm surprised that no one has brought this up, but if it's a Federal Reserve Bank, the answer is NO and that's not decided by state law.

In Oregon the county I have my cc through says no cc in banks, schools , state or fed bldgs.
And your county is LYING about the bank , school, and state bulding part. IF you have an OR CPL, you are 100% legal in those places, whether carrying open or concealed, anywhere in the state. Withouth a permit, FEDERAL law prohibits school carry (there is nothing in state law prohibiting it). Also, with banks and state buildings, OC is 100% legal under state law, without a permit, so you are still fine in 99% of the state. A handful of specific cities ban OC WITHOUT a permit (if you have a permit and OC, they can do nothing), so check city law if you have no permit.

So, in OR, if you have an OR permit, you can carry, open or concealed ANYWHERE except a courthouse, jail, or prison. Thats ALL that is restricted by state law, ans with a permit, ONLY state laws apply to carry. City and county laws are pre-empted completely, and are thus meaningless. Federal law obviously adds in ALL federal buildings and secure areas of airports.

As far as I can tell, there are only twelve federal reserve banks.

It is always interesting to read about laws. One place it is okay open carry but you can't carry concealed. Another state it's just the opposite. Some states don't care. And then we read where it takes 76 days to purchase a gun in DC. In Cheyenne, if I wanted to write the check, I could buy every gun in the store and walk out with all of them plus ammo. Thirty minutes south, in Ft. Collins, I have to have the gun shipped to a dealer.

How many people do their banking at a Federal Reserve Bank?

Wyocarp, you might enjoy browsing through http://www.handgunlaw.us/ to see some of the different laws.

Yes and yes in GA.

Who banks at the Fed? I'm there five days a week, (I'm a courier) and getting onto the Fed is a lot of fun. You get searched and patted down, and your vehicle gets a search. Inside, outside, under the hood.

Yup. And the dealer would have to send ATF a special notice on the purchase of more than one gun in a single day. FBI wouldn't give a flip; they'd just give a GO or a HOLD on your NICS.

My niece lives in Westmont ,just west of Chicago operating a very successful restaurant.

I'm in Wheaton, what's the name of the Restaurant ?? (Always looking for a good place to eat.)

For the Record. I Fanny Pack carry everywhere in Illinois except Schools and the Post Office.

In fact I had just made a deposit about twenty minutes prior to this at this bank.

Michigan:

Burk, I'm not sure you are correct about that. In MI you may concealed carry if you have a CPL. You may not open carry unless you have a CPL.

Odd isn't it?

Actually, with my permit, they don't even check. It takes no longer than five minutes to purchase a gun.

The Federal Reserve is a private bank. They are not a federal property.
I cc in CT whenever I go to the bank. It's legal here. In CT, even a sign is not legally binding, they have to tell you personally to leave...and if you are cc'ing.. well you get the drift.

I always CC when I have to go to the bank or an ATM. I don't open carry so it doesn't matter in my case.

You can unless the bank has it posted otherwise and so far (here in Northern OH) the only bank I've come across that posts is First Merit, and I've heard that the bank is reconsidering their position after loosing a significant number of customers. Although I do not know the latter to be fact, only heresay.

However there are a number of restaurants that do ... go figure. :banghead:

A bank whose funds are FDIC insured is not a federal building.

In AZ it is legal to carry in a bank unless there is a "no firearms" sign posted. If you carry into a bank - or any place - so posted and they spot your gun, you can be asked to leave; if you do not you can only be charged with misdemeanor trespass. Open carry is legal here and technically it should be legal to carry openly into a bank, but I am not willing to be the test case. ;)

WaMu does not "post," but it will be interesting to see what their new owner (Chase) comes up with.

Here in OH, back when the CHL law took effect in 2004, there was a race to put gunbuster signs up. I'm not sure if the local Chase put 'em up and later removed them, but they're not posted now.

Seems like people post in OH even if they don't post across the border in PA, MI, etc.

OH's rules on signage are extremely vague....

Regards,

Nevada, CC and OC are legal in banks unless the bank posts a nasty sign. Then they can make you leave or have you charged with trespass. I've only seen one bank (actually a credity union) that has put a 'no guns' sign up.

Jahwarrior, in the link you posted it sounds like he was open carrying. Thats a dumb idea in a bank. Banks get robbed all the time. It's makes sense that the lady was scared. I was talking about concealed carry. Show me a law that says you can't conceal carry in a bank as long as there is no sign posted that you can't.
