Election Outcome

ok 2 weeks of polling shows Obama winning. So how do gunnies fix this, become Democrats who will be willing to stand up for the little guy and run on honest platforms. If you think the system is broke, go fix it!
I think Heller II will knock a lot of wind out of gun reg sails. We just need to speed up the court process to get these things on paper to limit governments goal of seizing certain weapon systems.

Not being Christian does not make you not American.

I whole-heartedly agree. I am not a Christian, however Obama's association with a person whose mission is to wipe out Christians, globalise the world and rid the world of guns is relevant.

Despite all of the whining on THR, Obama is pretty much a centrist

His kool-aid is selling well with the masses I see. I guess when he says that he wants to make the Clinton Era AWB permanent that he is lying??

Heller

The Heller decision has a wee caveat on the balance between the then weapons of second amendment thoughts, and what they would now consider the modern equivalent, AR15s with hi cap magazines?

I am not the one to totally understand it (only lived in the US of A for 5 years) but as a Permanent Resident I have the privilege of owning firearms, and carrying them (gotta love America) so my AUG/AR/Glocks are in my gun safe, and a Glock 19 is never more than three strides away in the house, and on my belt when I go out. New laws to take them away? I hope not.

I am banking on the Sons and Grand Sons of those Yanks who saved my native England in WW11 to come forward once again.

For those who think that if Obama were to win he'd be too busy to enact any type of gun control - Can you say "Multi-tasking"?

It's really not that hard to direct more than one endevor at a time.

Getting our guns will be the #1 priority as we are the last thing standing in the way of the socialist takeover
Are you wearing a foil helmet while you type?
Do you honestly think that Obama is likely to appoint a justice who will respect the Second Ammendment?
Do you honestly think McCain is?
Yep,its not hard to 'takeover' a nation of people' when they are 'unarmed'.
::sigh:: Really? THAT'S your main concern with this election? Government takeovers?
I also don't think the Obama/Hitler comparison is that crazy.
I don't think it's sane.
Obama's association with a person whose mission is to wipe out Christians
puh-lease.
But I'll be dammed if I'm going to sit here and read a bunch of crap on this thread from fools that have convinced themselves of a load of lies about obama having no effect on guns.
That's what you're doing, though, isn't it? Sitting there, reading this. I guess I'm a fool. I've been called worse by better. After reading your post, your opinion of me doesn't cut very deep.

So, is gun control REALLY what your main concerns are for this election?

I mean, in the face of a $700 billion bailout, a foreign war that is looking for a way to be ended, economic recession with a depression on the horizon, failing schools, millions upon millions of American without health care, and predictions of over a MILLION jobs lost by the end of this year, gun control still tops your lists?

What the hell does it matter if a AWB II ban comes to fruition if NOBODY CAN AFFORD TO BUY OR SHOOT THEM??

Me, I got kids and a family, and a future to worry about. After the last 8 years and what they've done to this country, I couldn't bring myself to vote Republican unless I saw the savior in the candidate. And McCain ain't no savior.

I fall in with the "worried" crowd. I cetainly don't see Senator Obama as a "centrist".

The morning after the Democratic convention I got up, got coffee and turned on the news. I was quickly greeted by several soundbites from Senator Obama;

"When we get elected, we've got alot of work to do!"

"When we get into the White House, we've got children to educate!"

I remember thinking, "am I listenting to Pravda?', with the catchphrases, to which you can add "common sense, sensible gun regulations"...

Senator Obama has been in favor of a national ban on concealed carry permits and see the Illinois model as not only feasible nationwide, but desireable. Do you really want a firearms owners card which you need to possess your weapons or to purchase ammunition?

No, if Senators Obama and Biden are elected, you can expect an ongoing, relentless and significant attack on the 2A rights, particularly once the administration has had the opportunity to add judges/justices of their ilk to the bench(s).

I can't believe the paranoia some people have about Mr. Obama. The exaggeration, lies and racial hate. He is an intelligent man who I feel will be the best man for the job. I am pro gun rights and I am voting for Obama. These people comparing him to Nazis and Communists need to take their lithium or antidepressants. McCain and Palin scare the hell out of me. McCain is just itching for another war and Palin is a religious fundamentalist who hopes the end of time is near so Christ will return. Sorry....I do not want these kind of people to have their finger on the button that launches the nukes........:scrutiny:

FMJMIKE: We are all entitled to our opinions and we can all vote for whomever we choose.

But if you are a gun owner that cares about your gun rights, I don't care how you spin it, there is no way you can justify the Obama/Biden ticket when it comes to gun rights votes.

Just remember that when you guns are limited in purchase, registered and licensed, and eventually confiscated, you will not have the option of armed resistance against those that rule you.

It is not alarmist or paranoia to warn of what is to come with an Obama presidency. It is called vigilance and caution. McCain just stinks a bit less than our fraternal socialist brother Obama.

I guess it comes down to priorities. The 2nd amendment is right there at the top for me.

Have you turned on the news in the last year? Nothing else seems like it should be climbing on your list?
Regardless of who you vote for, I think there ought to be a few other issues you might want to consider before casting the vote.

I'm not too worried. I don't think gun control is going to be high on either candidates priority list.

What worries me is if something happens that pushes gun control more to the front lines, such as another school or mass shooting. I think that as long as things stay quiet over the next few years then whoever gets elected will leave gun control on the sidelines, there are more pressing issues to deal with, like the state of the economy and the war in Iraq.

People seem to think that if Obama gets elected then the first thing he is going to do is enact stricter gun laws. I don't see that happening. It's a strong possibility that it could happen eventually but I think we will have plenty of warning before it does.

The 2A is the teeth that gives the Bill of rights it's power. There is a reason for the 2A to be in the Bill of Rights, that is to prevent tyranny by giving the people the real power. The founding fathers may be dead, but tyranny has always show it's ugly face throughout history. From The King of England, To Hitler, to Mussolini, the tyrants have always preyed on the helpless and unarmed.

Additionally, anyone who has ever lived in or near DC, Philly, NYC, Detroit, or been in the riots knows just who is responsible for your life and personal safety when the chips are down. It's not the police. Also, if you know those areas, you know that they all have highly restrictive gun legislation to keep guns out of the hands of the law abiding citizen, and criminals all run free, fully armed and not one bit affected by the gun control legislation and causing pandemonium at any given time, day or night.

You have GOT to be kidding. Just look at his stands on gun control. Look at his past associations with radical bombers. Look at his early mentors -- hey, a COMMUNIST was one of 'em!!!! Centrist?

Sorta sad how easy it is for the trash media to manipulate some voters. I don't care if the tabloid crap is right wing or left wing - I think you need to think for yourself.

If you compare actual policies on major issues (foreign policy, economics, health care), you'll find there's not that much difference. There is a much larger difference in tone than in action. They are both centrists - by any reasonable difference of centrists. American elections are won by tiny percentages - that means the politicians slug it out in the middle, and hope they can hold a tiny advantage at the extremes. Turn off Rush and read some actual news. Our "landslides" are tiny precisely because the big fight is in the center.

I started out giving McCain money this year. I think he'd make a better president, but his vice president as command-in-chief (or chief executive) scares the crap out of me. The Couric interview on the Supreme court sounded like a spoof of every air-headed beauty contestant speech I'd ever heard. Asked to discuss Supreme Court decisions, I would at least have expected her to mention Heller.

In the debate, she sounded even more empty than Obama - no substance at all. She sounded to me like she was disparately clinging to the script.

At any rate, I don't expect and big changes in our gun rights, no matter who wins. I don't see the Supreme Court touching Heller for a long, long time.

Mike

80 million gun owners, if every one were an NRA member & voted only for PRO Gun Rights we would never have to worry.

Obama wins.

All the current polls are not only showing Obama winning, but having over 300 electoral votes.

Election-projection shows Obama with 358.

It's over.

I was calling it as I saw it. What is YOUR proof he's a centrist? His prior stand on guns??? The fact that he supports Heller but also supported the DC gun ban?
The fact I disagree with you is hardly any decent evidence I don't think for myself. But by your definition ... I guess I'd have to agree with you in order to do that.
If you think Palin sounds more empty than Obama then I guess that tells me a lot about where you're coming from. Obama is regurgitating hollow sound bytes from the Klintonistas and vacuous ideas from the '60s liberals. Biden has stuck his foot in his mouth do many times you'd need a Cray Computer to keep up.

Not all by a long shot. Fox News Sunday has him at 273ish.
McCain is behind but not impossibly so.
It's just the trends aren't in his favor.

Rights are forever if only we can preserve them. On any other issue, i don't see how it matters if we're running out of ways to pay for things. The choice is clear to me.

Like others here, i don't think the president will have a direct effect on the RKBA; it's a matter of events to come that are (seemingly) out of the president's control.

aka108,

Read Senate Bill s2433. Just type in S 2433 on your search engine. Think it will answer a few questions.

Global Poverty Act of 2007? I don't see how this is gun related...

My advice to anyone following politics is this: Turn off your ears. Look at voting records. Talk is cheap and the truth is in the pudding. If something seems funny to you in the records, odds are it is. Take a careful look at the script added to the ends of bills, the earmarks, pork, etc., and it can sometimes be recognized why a bill was voted for or against.

Do I believe the upcoming election is pivotal in determining RKBA rights? Sure do. Every election does.
