Help! Shipping Firearm Manufacturer Fedex conflicting message

Something's definetly wrong with the requirements for shipping firearms.

I recently sent a revolver back for warranty work via UPS. Cost $65 and I had to drive approx. 100 miles round trip (the closest hub office). Received it back (in 3 weeks from Taurus) via FedEx. Cost them $35 to ship and was delivered to my doorstep.

I do notice that some indicate that you cannot ship firearms at Fedex Kinko's stores. That is not true. The shipping counter at Fedex Kinko's is staffed by employees of Fedex, paid by Fedex, they are supposed to accept firearms there. If they won't, ask them to call the corporate office.

UPS, a few years ago, quit shipping handguns by regular ground. Air only. The reason was employee theft, beyond their control. Too many insurance claims and payouts. That raised the cost of all handguns to everybody, since many dealers' deliveries are via UPS.

Long guns? USPS is the least-cost, least-hassle way to go, generally.

Psychology, having nothing to do with laws: I take the barrelled action out of the stock, so the package is shorter and thus less "threatening". I'll make some verbal comment along the lines of, "Aw, my uncle collects old antique firearms." (He's long since dead, but the gal behind the counter doesn't know that.) That way, she wouldn't be contaminated or endangered by some Evil Thing. :D:D:D
