I haven't shot it yet. Anyone have one and how do you like yours both good or bad?

I want one so bad!

All I know is I shot next to a guy with one, and the boom you get from those rounds is amazing,....and they don't stop! Just keeps going and going with those mags.

I like mine. Low recoil, very little muzzle flash with factory ammo, relatively low cost for what is essentially a rifle round, etc.

It's one of my every day CCWs. :)

congrats, i am sure that everyone agrees with me but we need pics and a nice range report.

i don't have one but i have shot several hundred rounds through one, though they are fun to shoot accurate and no recoil to speak of, i wouldn't buy one but that is because the gun itself is so expensive and the ammo is too, other than that they are awesome.

Holy cow, PTK is right! I thought the ammo would be absolutely ridiculous but it isn't that bad... just a bit more than my .45 ammo. Iiiiiiinteresting!

More accurate than I will ever be

Low recoil

Big BOOM

Get's attention at the range

Large capacity (20) mag

Light to carry - even with full mag

LOTS OF FUN!!!!!!

Ammo is more expensive than 9mm but if bought in bulk is very reasonable

I saw a report on one here a while back where one of those things fired 1/4" out of battery and kaboomed; seemed to eat the firer's hand pretty bad.

No offense, but ANYthing that fires that far out of battery, ESPECIALLY with a "high-pressure" cartridge, isn't getting fired by me unless it's from behind a barrier using a long string.

Don't get me wrong, I WANT to like the Five-seveN, I really do--the concept is cool, etc, but......it's the whole "Kaboom" factor that kills it for me.

EDIT: Found it. Here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=362563&highlight=five+seven+kaboom

Eightball,
The OP complaint of the kaboom thread was pretty well debunked. I think the 5.7 is as safe as any pistol, and more than most probably. Proves the point "when in doubt - read and follow the manual"

when u guys say low recoil.. how low? like lower than a 9mm?

More than a .22lr, less than a .32acp. Very controlable due to the full grip.

IMHO, the 5.7 is a niffty, well made pistol, with some very interesting and positive traits. I'm still working on my $15 per box ammo when I bought the gun, but prices now seem to hover around the $20 mark...pricey but not prohibitive.

It is an accurate gun, easy to operate, shoot and load...a real plus for anyone frail or arthritic. My one wished for change would be for a better trigger.

As the last poster stated - that story is not what it seemed to be - there is a thread on it at the FN Forum (among other places) that explains the REAL story. That issue was from a double charged round. The gun does not fire out of battery - the slide can move a small amount backwards and the round is still in battery. It is part of the design.

The guy who had this happen to him posted his story on at least 10-12 sites, to generate neg press. He created enough of storm that I believe it played a role in FN's eventual decision to replace his gun. But, it was his fault, as he was using reloads. He eventually reported this.

So, this issue is beating a dead horse - and if this stops you from making the decision to buy one (assuming U like the gun) - then you are doing so based on faulty information

I've got one, great gun and round. I have those CMMG ten round extensions to make it a total 30 round magazine. That in it self is amazing for a pistol to have 30 potent rounds and still almost weight nothing.

My first shooting impressions were that the recoil was between a .22lr and a .32 acp, follow up shots were easy and acquired in no time. The round is powerful because though you can't feel much recoil, you can feel the concussion of the blast as it leaves the barrel. Rapid firing placed all shots on a shoot-n-c at 25 yards easily. ( I will post pics of my target and the gun tomorrow, left my camera at work tonight.)

Its a great gun, I recommend anyone who has one to get ammo from eliteammunition.com because the factory ammo is moderate to what its capable of.

Again I apologize for not having the pictures tonight, I will post them sometime tomorrow evening. Thanks!

Much less than any nine I have fired. I dont have a 5.7 but I plan to get one as a companion to the ps90. I used my frineds to hunt jackrabbits and it won me over. As for exploding guns, if you hand load dont double charge that will blowup more than just a five seven

About the 5.7 dangers--I've read in a few reloading manuals (Hodgdon's online, I believe) that this round is very sensitive to pressure variation form the common reloading variables--powder amount, bullet, and bullet seating. This really caught my attention because I have not seen this warning for other rounds.

$20/50 rounds for premium stuff isn't expensive at all. Also, as for the gun being unsafe, that's completely untrue - but I also wouldn't ever reload for this caliber.

Loaded, it's lighter than my EMPTY XD45 from Springfield.

For those who say that the true cause was a double-charge: if you post a link to a post that says as much, then I will withdraw my above claim; to tell the truth I hadn't studied that particular case in any degree of depth.

intrigues me, as I would intend to reload for this thing if ammo got too expensive or scarce, and just follow the manuals and books to the T.

I do have to admit--if there was a good source to get the "we're only selling these to the military because they actually WORK" projectiles for the round, I'd start saving up for it to reload for it and have some fun, and maybe pack it around.

I love my 5.7.
Although I don't shoot it as much as I'd like.

Most trigger time goes to my concealed carry.

Heres a pic of my Five SeveN and at 25 yard target. Notice the small dots, this gun is ACCURATE.

I wanted a pistol which I felt was best able to engage multiple assailants at once. This prescribed extremely fast, controllable fire with a bottomless magazine. That led me to the Five Seven. With the 10 round extension, it's got 30 rounds and is still unbelievable light and compact. It's going camping with my girlfriend and I this winter.

The round isn't as powerful as it is made out to be. It's essentially the same as .22WMR fired from a rifle. Certainly nothing to sneeze at though. I believe the best course of action when shooting someone with it would be to fill their chest full of it. Because of the extremely fast follow up shots, it's not hard to do.

Honestly, I can shoot 4 or 5 rounds of controlled fire out of the Five Seven for every one round of controlled .45.

Thanks for the replys to my first question.

Tomorrow I will take this piece to the range and see how effective this gun is. I will do some 1/4 inch steel work to see if this gun can defeat armor. I will advise with pics.

To me if this piece performs as described it will be my main carry gun!

The round won't defeat armor unless you are using SS190 ammo which isn't available to citizens.

Got to shoot her today WOW!

I took my five-seven to the range today and fire 100 rounds. Very light recoil and very big blast with flame. You can tell some serious velocity is taking place with this 25 grain hollow point.

Bench rested at 25 yards I could group 2 or 3 inches. No FTF's occured and the gun is a lot of fun to shoot. With 3 twenty round mags this gun offers tremendous fire power and lets you just spray the target due to low recoil and quick recovery.

Great gun and fun to shoot.
