Stopped in Wal-mart today to buy a hunting license and browsed by the ammo case. They had Federal blue box .308 for 8.99/box. Normally @$13.00/box It's certainly not match grade but it'll add to the stockpile.

My wal mart = 20USD for a box of 7.62x39mm.

For a box of 20 rounds? That stinks...
Yes but keep in mind all 7.62x39 is high precision super-accurate uber-ammo so it doesn't come cheap! :neener:
The last case I bought of x39 was 18 cents a round and I thought it was a rip-off.

1,000rds. .308 Brown Bear 145gr. FMJ 329.95
(It's the sixth one down on your link)

Ya, then ad $50 in shipping. Besides brown bear isn't the same quality as federal blue box. How did you figure free shipping?

That federal stuff will make fair to middlin' hunting ammo. All the rest of the stuff folks posted in most locales is illegal to hunt with. So, I say ya' done good.

My local Cabelas had the same deal going a while back, I bought them out of 243, 30-30, 308, 30-06, 7mm, and 300 mag. Took three shopping carts clear full to do it.... One cart caved in on the way to the register. OOPS! My bad.

Seriously though, if you attempt to shoot steel-cased ammo through your Ishapore Lee-Enfield, you are going to end up with a stuck bolt and a BIG mess.
I've shot quite a bit of Wolf .308 through my Ishy with no problems. What would cause the problem? Ishys are rated for 7.62 NATO. Would the steel case cause a problem?

but where on earth did you get $50.00 for S&H??? They say that includes shipping...

If you put the 1000 rounds of ammo in your shopping cart and check out it tells you how much it will be to ship. The shipping they quoted would be $50 for 1000rounds.

And brown bear maybe reliable, but it is far from consistent. Try to get brown bear to shoot like federal, or even prvi and lithuanian surplus.

I don't know anything about enfields and would like to know why you would have a mess.

And http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=.308 doesn't list 1000 rounds of brown bear, but the 500 rounds they list from ammo to go has $28 shipping. Maybe you were thinking of something else?

I dont mean to be a prude, But when you own 3000.00 to 4500.00 rifles you dont shoot just anything in them.

As to the wolf 308.

I recently purchased a case of Hertenberger for 400.00 from another forum.

While I dont use the ammo for plinking cans it is nice to have for when the SHTF and IMHO its not too far off these days.

One or two more banks failing and or another right taken away by Corp US and we are there.

No its not from what I have or have not heard, It just makes sense to me to make the ammo out a softer material than the inner workings of the Rifle that your running it through.

Ammo is a lot cheaper than replacing internal parts of the Rifle.

IMO it makes a lot more sense to use ammo made of a metal that would tend to wear less than the same material as the Rifle.

Brass is softer than steel and hopefully would wear out the action a lot slower than a steel cased ammo.

If I had a 200.00 beater I most likely wouldn't care what I ran through it, But with what quality Firearms cost these days and Im also talking about Title II weapons if you want them to last you baby them and nurture them like they were your own offspring.

But If your into such steel cased ammo I have a nice belt of Norinco 308 that I would be happy to unload in return for the same quantity of say Radway Green 308, Or even a direct swap for some Radway Green .223 ammo as my stocks of 223 are getting a little low, I'm starting to cannibalise the walls of my sub basement (its composed of stacked cases of full ammo crates).

Have you heard of the Wolf to be bad for semi-autos like the HK or FAL?

I have a Saiga 308. I feed it anything it'll digest. All my guns are just tools, no collector pieces. What I save in ammo, I'll spend on new guns should any of my guns happen to konk out after 60,000 rounds or so.

The steel in steel-cased ammo is mild and pretty soft. Not elastic like brass, but soft all the same. It is almost certainly considerably softer than anything in your gun that is steel. I would definitely not want to shoot any rifle with steel as soft as that used in cartridges.

That said, brass is softer (good for extractor) and is more elastic than steel (new brass, not brittle cases from the 1930's such as some other ammo and yes, I know 308 does not hail from that time).

Check out this deal, people...

I've been going to ammunitionstore.com lately to get the best deals, $7.99 for 20 rounds of the Wolf FMJ here: http://www.ammunitionstore.com/prod...-150gr-FMJ-Wolf-Performance-20-Round-Box.html, but their best value is definitely in the bulk if that's what you're lookin for: http://www.ammunitionstore.com/prod...0gr-FMJ-Wolf-Performance-1000-Round-Case.html. I have a hard time beating these guys on their 308 pricing, nice site too. Hope this advice helps someone out...

I only go with brass on 308. Not a caliber to go Russian with but that's just me. (and depends on what you're wanting to do with it)
