Planning on chasing a few deer around with the .460 in a few days, so went out to re-check it...understand this is a gravel pit, using a WorkMate as a rest, etc...not a range. Because it is (relatively) cheap, and I have shot more of it than anything else, I set up at 50yds with Hornady 200gr SST ammo. With the open sights, I shot 15rds, supporting only my hands with a rolled-up rug; placed all 15 in a 6" circle, 12 of those in the upper 'hemisphere", so am feeling pretty good about what kind of shot I would expect to take. Then, I had a cylinder's worth of Buffalo Bore (donated by a friend) 360grn LFN (1900FPS). I dutifully changed the compensator (from the one for jacketed to the one for lead bullets) and shot the five rds...no new holes in the target! None left to try from closer in...where do you think these went in relation to the 200gr rounds? I figured they might go higher, but to miss the target would have to be at least 8" high...does that sound reasonable? Don't think it was just me, as I was doing quite well. Also- I can see that if you used the "jacketed bullet" compensator for lead bullets, the top ports could get dirty and become difficult to remove, BUT, is there any harm in using the "lead bullet" compensator for jacketed bullets?

I'm not 100% sure about the 460 but my 44 shoots higher with heavier bullets. They are typically loaded a little slower. That along with more recoil the barrel is tilted up a little higher when the bullet actually exits the muzzle. Think of it this way, more recoil equals more muzzle rise with a slower bullet which will result in a higher trajectory when the bullet reaches the muzzle.
I don't even have a guess for you on the compensator. Sorry

I guessing they went high as well. Outta my .460 compensated hunter, the Factory loaded 200grn. SST's shoot about 8-10 inches lower than my handloaded 240/300 grainers @ 50 yards.......but outta my sons .460 TC it's just the opposite. I would advise against using the 200grn. SST's on deer sized animals. My experience with them on deer has not been good as they tend to blow up on impact.

My 460 shoots high with the iron sights, as a matter of fact, I ran out of adjustment on the rear sight. I shoot a 240gr hand load. I end ed up putting the EOtech 512 on it. Man, now it shoots. The heavier the bullit the longer it's in the barrel, the more the muzzle climb, so it shoots just a tad higher than a lighter bullet. My 44mag is the same way.

You bullets were hitting high, as for using jacketed bullets in the lead compensator, I have done it for a long time with no ill effect what so ever.
I actually never used the jacketed compensator in my 460 or 500 Mag's

My suggestion is reload, and just use better bullets. For deer the 240 gr. Hornady XTP mag's work very good. Also the Nosler 260 gr. partitions work great. Anything bigger then deer, I like a good 300 gr. hard cast bullet.

Which model of .460 do you have? Could you post pictures or a description of your EOtech mount?

The EOTech will mount on any weaver style mount. The PC models come with a weaver style rail which also works well with the EOTech. The WEIGAND MOUNT with fit the regular or standard 460 Mags.

I have a regular 460. Had to remove the rear iron sight and mount this other thingy that the 512 sits on. don't know how to upload pics, sorry. I really like the 512 though. It is a little on the big size, but so is the pistol.

Although I don't have or shoot a .460, my experence with heavy .44 Mag loads duplicate what others have said, they will tend shoot higher.
