Planning on chasing a few deer around with the .460 in a few days, so went out to re-check it...understand this is a gravel pit, using a WorkMate as a rest, etc...not a range. Because it is (relatively) cheap, and I have shot more of it than anything else, I set up at 50yds with Hornady 200gr SST ammo. With the open sights, I shot 15rds, supporting only my hands with a rolled-up rug; placed all 15 in a 6" circle, 12 of those in the upper 'hemisphere", so am feeling pretty good about what kind of shot I would expect to take. Then, I had a cylinder's worth of Buffalo Bore (donated by a friend) 360grn LFN (1900FPS). I dutifully changed the compensator (from the one for jacketed to the one for lead bullets) and shot the five rds...no new holes in the target! None left to try from closer in...where do you think these went in relation to the 200gr rounds? I figured they might go higher, but to miss the target would have to be at least 8" high...does that sound reasonable? Don't think it was just me, as I was doing quite well. Also- I can see that if you used the "jacketed bullet" compensator for lead bullets, the top ports could get dirty and become difficult to remove, BUT, is there any harm in using the "lead bullet" compensator for jacketed bullets?
