are you sure you didn't get ahold of some old black talons? what you describe doesn't sound like the win ranger .40's I've used and seen..but does maybe sound like the old black talons..

SXT: Supreme Expansion Technology

Winchester's personal protection bullet. Designed with reverse tapered jacket, has uniform expansion, greater accuracy and reliable firearm functioning.

Black bullets have a special coating that extracts maximum evil from the bullet
I think it was just a anti-wear coating. The black talons had it, I'm not sure if any of the newer ones do.

The Ranger SXT's are the same as black talons, they just don't have the black finish on them.
Black Talons were made infamous and many states banned them because of the false reputation they got in movies as beeing cop killers and able to penetrate body armor.

Ranger SXT was discontinued in 1998. It had the black lubalux coat and a brass case.

It was repaced by the Ranger T-Series SXT. It has a different bullet but is still in the SXT family. T-Series does not have the lubalux coat.

In the last year they have came out with a second generation T-Series. Everything looks the same as the first T except they deleted SXT from the box and replaced it with T-Series.

The first picture is the T-Series. Second picture is the Enhanced T-Series.

as I understand it WIN changed the name of black talons and continued to sell them.these are the new style.
