I'm trying to compile a list of as many pro-2A founding father remarks as possible. I might put them on a shirt or maybe a mousepad at some point.

Anything along the lines of "No freeman shall be dabarred the use of arms." -Thomas Jefferson, would be appreciated. Thanks.

"What country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms." Thomas Jefferson

The great object is that every man be armed....everyone who is able may have a gun............Patrick Henry

Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion, in private self-defense..........John Adams

Little more can reasonably be aimed at with respect to the people at large than to have them properly armed and equipped......Alexander Hamilton

To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them..........George Mason

Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion of your walks.................Thomas Jefferson

The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword because the whole body of the people are armed..............Noah Webster

New to the forum & I love quotes.

"But if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights" - Alexander Hamilton

"Are we at last brought to such an humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms for our own defense? Where is the difference between having our arms under our own possession and under our own direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?" - Patrick Henry

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." - Thomas Jefferson

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon, and citizen's firearms are indelibly related. From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land knows firearms, and more than 99 99/100 percent of them by their silence indicate they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference; they deserve a place with all that's good. When firearms go, all goes; we need them every hour." - George Washington

He is a founding father in Texas...

"Any government that would attempt to disarm its people is despotic; and any people that would submit to it deserve to be slaves!"

- Stephen F. Austin, 1835

Actualy I like the full quote more. One must understand in those days though that a standing army included what is today thought of as Federal LEO. It was a standing army that performed the jobs federal LEO do now.

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States." Noah Webster

Are there any anti-2A founding father quotes? I'm curious to read any if they exist so I am not surprised should I get into a debate and I have rebuttals prepared.

Vegas, will you have this compilation posted anywhere so I can refer to it in the future instead of searching for this thread?

I would be leery of using so-called quotes that do not reference a source document. Many of the "quotes" we rely on have simply been invented, and do not appear in any of the known writings of their supposed authors. Dishonesty to make a true point is the low road. That ain't us.

Scott, I couldn't agree more and that's why a good place to start researching quotes of the Founding Fathers is "The Federalist Papers" which dates back to 1787.

Another one of my favorites is from a more modern day Democrat you may know, and is perfect for this year. Think about it:

The right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible...........Hubert H. Humphrey

Thank you MIL-DOT I stand corrected. I was unaware the Washington quote was ficticious. Lesson learned. Next time I will dig a bit deeper before sticking my foot in my mouth.
