Don't worry, I already have the flamesuit on for the Mall Ninja jokes, so bring 'em on! :fire:

Anyway, I am really interested in owning this thing. And if owning the factory built is impossible due to laws surrounding that kind of stuff, what is the process and legality of doing a 17/19 conversion to FA? This is a pure interest only question and not one because I want to the cool guy with a MP, btw. I just am fascinated with the damn thing and can't get it out of my head.

My understanding is that you'd need to go into business as either a firearms dealer or manufacturer, get your FFL/SOT, and then get a demo request letter from a local police agency.

There's no legal process for an individual to make a machinegun, as of 1986. Form 1's are just for suppressors and short barrel rifles/shotguns, as far as the law allows us.

There is one on GunsAmerica for $500... to law enforcement only.

A friend of mine was a reserve deputy and got the sheriff to order a $250 Thompson for him to use "on duty." He paid for it but it was registered to the county, although it was "issued" back to him. He was very selective about who he invited to his "training sessions" and there was no adverse publicity. All it took was a little political pull. This was some time ago, the rules are probably stricter now.

First off, there are no legally transferrable Glock 18 pistols. They were made after the 1986 machine gun ban and further more they would also be regulated by the GCA of 1968 which banned importation of machine guns except to those going to LE or governments. These are called pre 86 dealer samples. Being in this status, the dealer could keep them when his SOT expired. These are known as "keepers" and are a bit higher in price than post 86 samples but much cheaper than fully transferrables.

There may be a few fully transferrable conversion kits out there but I seriously doubt it, as these would have to be made before the G18 selector switch was designed. Some smart engineer 07/02 might have made a full auto Glock pistol before Glock even did, but it's highly doubtful.

As it is in the US there are only two ways to get a Glock 18 legally.

1) Become a 01 FFL and pay the Class 3 SOT tax yearly to become a NFA dealer. Get a demo letter from a LE agency for a Glock 18. Then buy one. NIB run $800.

2) Become a 07 FFL and pay the Class 2 SOT tax yearly to become a NFA manufacturer. Also, register with the US State Department ITAR as a manufacturer, regardless if you actually import or export or not. This yearly fee is now $2,250.

If you get an FFL to enhance your personal firearms collection you are in violation of law and will get you license pulled and face possible jail time.

Yup. Using your SOT to get NFA items to enhance your personal collection can be construed as "tax evasion" by the BATFE. Even if you couldn't otherwise get the items!

Not a SBR, they are illegal in MI (unless C&R gun on C&R license).

That's a 9mm M16 type machine gun I built a few weeks ago. RRA stock, Double Star lower, CMMG 7.3 MedCon upper with MI rail system.
