.25 acp ?

I still say I would think really hard about the rock. At least I know it will do what it's supposed to. Charly above be said it very well. In a situation where everything is really a matter of probabilities, is this REALLY the round you want to hang your life on? While I might be able to empty a magazine of these into someone, is there any reason on this planet I wouldn't rather empty a magazine of pretty much anything else into them? Use what you have, but is this REALLY all you have?

How about a Baby Browning?

The P3-AT is about the same size, lighter and more powerful. It's in my pocket when I take the dogs for a walk

I had a little Beretta .25 but sold it after NAA came out with their .32 Guardian. I still prefer my S&W 442 .38 way more than the .32 but between the .25 or .32 I will take the .32 any day over a .25 auto. BTW, the Guardian has been 100% reliable and is a quality product.

To answer your question...

...about the Beretta 418, they are great little pocket pistols. I have two and I occasionally carry them. I have shot them both enough to know they're reliable with both hollow-points and fmjs (I carry them with fmjs). I also understand the limitations of the .25 acp and if called upon, I would use it accordingly.

As for the Beretta 418, they handle nicely, can be fired rapidly, are reliable (at least mine are) and are accurate out to about 21 feet or so. They are also a lot of fun to shoot. The only downside (other then the tactical limitations mentioned above) is the cost of the ammo. .25 can get a little pricey, particularly compared to .22.

If you can find one, buy it, shoot it, and have fun.:D

that baby browning is awsome, keep it in the safe and buy at least a kt or Ruger lcp 380, twice the firepower, Much better ammo selection, price even lower to shoot and IMO the 380 is at the very low end of a defense round. Both the LCP and kt are liter and probably close to the same size.

Still that little Browning is an awsome ol timer to say the least..

the 25 cal has lived its day, give it a good burial but its time has come and went...

The P3 is lighter than a Baby Browning, but considerably larger.

My hat is off to you for owning that little colt 25. Haven't seen one of those in years. A super high quality made little gun that probably ought to be in a glass case for all to view and never carried.

Great gun- in its day..

i would be afraid of a mad squirrel with one! seriosly, i had a freind who actually shot a person with one. the bullet was stopped by the guys jacket and shirt. i dont know the distance, but it couldnt have been to far. it knocked the man down, and my freind ran like he77 out of there with the guy running after him. he only got away because the guy got held up by traffic and my freind got on a city bus. he learned later through other people that the bullet never even penetrated the guys skin. he traded the .25 the next day for a 38 special. if you want a pocket pistol, get a .380 or 9mm. kel-tec has a very small 9mm, and kel-tec and ruger make a very nice 380 as well. 25acp's IMO, are for tin cans, and happy squirrels.

I often keep a Baby Browning .25 in my pocket, nothing hides easier. Mine is loaded up with the 35 gr. Gold Dot load which seem to feed with no problem.

Double Tap offers ammo that gives 200 pounds at the muzzle from a little Kel-Tec barrel and 250 from longer barrels in Bersas. A 25 gives 75 pounds or perhaps a little less from the smallest guns.
The size of a fully loaded KT P-3AT is 11 ounces. Some fully loaded 25s weigh more, some a little less...very little less.
The KT has been stashed in bathing suits. It hides. My favorite gun is a 45 XD compact but the KT is 24/7. Carry it always.
As to the 22 get a 9-shot revolver. They're cheap at gun shows...more so if they look somewhat scratchy and most work fine. The 22 is generally only reliable in large target pistols and not always then.

While I agree that today there are much better choices for a small caliber ccw than a .25, I sometimes carry a PT-25 (rare but sometimes) and I am quite confident I could empty the magazine proficiently into a perp if need be thereby providing myself with the necessary self-defense. The PT-25 cycles flawlessly and is actually fun to shoot out to ten yards at the range.

This does seem to be the age old question.

Yeah, for what you want, it's probably okay. Still, two neighbors of my aunt's in Washington, D.C., were murdered last night. Based on many, many news articles I've read in my time, I've been very surprised that the .25ACP is as effective as it is. I'm also surprised by how many times the little bullets kill. Still, some luck is required. If you need one, you probably should get something stronger. If you don't feel you really need it, the .25 may be just what you're looking for.

Ya, I have four of these little 1908's, four Mauser 1910's too. And a Beretta .25 and a two shot chromed derringer in the caliber. There's probably some I've forgotten. I have them but I'll be damned if I'm going to trust my life to any of them, or to the whole bunch of them for that matter. They're just curios. Like collecting cigar lighters.

To the OP.....Your 418 is a nice little pocket pistol. Small and it should be reliable.
These threads always elicit the; "I was shot in the brain 5 times with a .25, took 2 aspirin, and then I got mad and kicked the shooter's butt" replies. John Browning developed the little cartridge for a good reason. One which Kel-Tecs and LCP's have not totally overtaken.
I own a bunch of .25acp pocket guns (tons of pocket guns in .22, .25, .32, & .380). Yep, the K-T P3AT and P32 also. I often carry a late 1950's vintage Beretta 950B when I'm around the neighborhood and the zombies have been quiet; 9 rounds, 100% reliable, and perfectly safe with one in the chamber. I also have the mentioned Bauer copy of a Browning Baby....tiny and quite nice. But my Beretta's get carried most often when I need to tuck something small in the pocket.
Although, if I know I'll be in zombie territory, the S&W gets holstered.

A .25 auto is still a gun, no matter if its not the macho fire belching gun of the month in whatever gun magazine you worship at. It's killed plenty of people over the years, too many to be accident.

If you like it fine, carry it. If you don't, hey it s a free country. The origianl poster should be fine with a .25 jetfire in his pocket. Most crimes get stopped at the mere presence of a firearm. Like the first rule of gunfights- have a gun. If a person is very comfortable with a particular gun, then he should carry it. Some of us like vanilla ice cream, some chocolate. Matter of taste.

Too often these kind of posts turn into a "I'd rather have a sharp stick" kind of thing, which is too bad. There's a nitch for everything. Just because it is a .45 dosen't mean its going to work well either. This month, the December issue of the American Rifleman has a blub in the Armed Citizen collum sabout a person using a .45 and shooting a suspect several times and having the suspect run off. He was later cought. So much for the magic knock down power of the .45. Last summer the Armed Citizen had a blub about a man coming to the aid of a police officer who was on the ground with a suspect on top of him. The officer had already shot the man with a .40, and the citizen shot the suspect with a .45 with no effect. He then shot him in the head and killed the suspect.

I know a lady, friend of my better half, who has carried a little Baby Browning for over 25 years. She's in her mid 40's, divorced, and quite a looker. Can do a Heather Lockleer stand in. Since she gets alot of attention, theres been three times an assault on her has been stopped in the last 15 years we've known her. She's made subtle alterations to her dresses so she can have her little Baby .25 right on her instead of a purse. Each time some dirtbag has tried to have a go at her, the .25 has stopped all three would be assaults right there. When I gently sugested a bigger gun, she showed me how she carries her's and said find her one as small. I gave in, she had a point. It works for her.

Some people like to drive a big SUV or truck, others don't have a problem driving a Honda civic. Whatever works will do just fine. Knowing what you're doing with your gun of choice is way more important than what gun you are using. Who would you rather have to deal with, Bob Mundan with a .25, or a gang banger with a tech 9 held sideways?

I WISH it had been a .25 acp round that went through my right leg and across my left. I'd have had four fewer surgeries, never limped, and would be able to sleep without painkillers today.

It's not about what's comfy to carry. It is about what you want to shoot BACK with.

How about empty a mag of .25acp into his chest and stomach. If he still won't stop put in another mag and give him some more. If that doesn't stop him then use the rock to smash his brains in.

Smashing his brains in with the rock is probably what will get you convicted.

Use the .25acp. Use it to stun him if necessary then if you are relatively sure he's not holding a knife or gun anymore then stick it right in his neck and that should do the trick. If not I'm sure a couple close in eyeball shots will do the trick. Again, I would only use the rock if I was out of ammo.

1. Stomach
2. Chest
3. Neck/face
3. Gonads
4. Eyeballs

Works every time!

Two months ago, the Armed Citizen column in The American Rifleman had a newspaper account of a one-shot lethal stop using a .25 ACP. The bad-guy was DRT.

I have to agree that having a gun, one that you own, not one that you're saving up for, is going to be necessary for you to return fire with. After that, you can decide on whether it was big enough, or not.

If the macho men in this thread were actually serious about the worst-cases that they post, or allude to, they'd all be regaling us with how they CCW a combat shotgun while headed out to the local mini-mart for a loaf of bread at 8:00 PM.:banghead:
