Marlin 1895GS Barrel Diameter

I have searched the internet to no avail.

What is the outer diameter of the Marlin 1895GS barrel at the muzzle?

Also when building a custom barrel this is one of the following material types, 4140 steel in the white.

What does "in the white" mean?

Thanks,

Ben

in the white means that the barrel is still just plain silver colered raw steel, not yet blued. your gunsmith would have to blue it prior to it leaving his shop. they are usually sold that way because there are machining steps that need to be done yet, so it makes no sence to blue it yet. as to the diameter, i can not help you there.

I have a Marlin 1895M... it is a 1st year .450Marlin with the 14 ports. It measures .780 at the muzzle . I believe it's the same size as the original guide gun.
