Do we need to worry about any confiscatory actions during the next four years ? Not banning actions per se, but rather, actual collections, mandatory turn-ins, or round-ups ?

Well one thing is for sure, "assault rifles" are being bought up like crazy. Take a look:

http://www.sltrib.com/Utah/ci_10912220?source=rv

Quote from the article: "We had one supplier go from 92 assault rifles to 12 in one day. Our suppliers are just frantically scrambling."

Another article:

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_10910395

Quote from the arcticle: "By midday Wednesday, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation's Insta- Check background check — required for the sale of a firearm and typically about 8 minutes long — was jammed with waits lasting more than two hours."

Quote from the arcticle: "One customer left with two new assault rifles and said he had already bought 30 weapons since Obama began his campaign for president."

I find it pretty ironic that their wanting to ban "assault rifles" is actually increasing (in a big freaking way) how many are owned. If/when they get around to a ban, the amount of "assault weapons" in the hands of law abiding citizens is going to have been increased ten fold, so they are almost going to have to have a grandfather clause just like the old ban did. People are spending thousands and thousands of dollars buying several rifles at a time. There's no way they could have a buyback program that would be fair (especially in this economy) and there's no way they are going to see the results of a confiscation.

Well economically the government cannot afford to give us all money for our collections and they do not have the man power to force us to turn them in willingly or otherwise. the best they could hope to do is a permanent ban. What we have to do is stay on the reps you have in your area and stay on the NRA and if you can donate to PRO gun groups and get the word out to friends and family that is the best weapon we have.

Talk to:
Friends
Co-works (careful)
Family

Win their hearts and minds and take them shooting, even if they dont buy a gun help them understand the rhetoric that will be coming from the anti gun crowd and advise them that its their rights that are going to be taken away also not just yours.

It's simply not possible.

I could see government support for National Gun Turn-Ins, making no effort to explain that it's voluntary.

This wouldn't infringe upon the Second Amendment, and there a LOT of weak Americans who would abide simply to "stay out of trouble".

A full-fledged confiscation isn't possible, and if it were attempted, the results would range anywhere from thousands of dead government agents to a Civil War. I don't think they're THAT stupid.

And 'permanent' bans aren't permanent if they're overturned, or legislated out of existence at a later date.

KEEP FIGHTING, NO MATTER WHAT.

No. The Heller decision aside, the cost would be very high.

The Federal Government can't go confiscating property without compensation. Figure 300 million firearms in the United States. Assume that 10% of them would be banned. Multiply by about $1000/gun...and you get $30 billion in required compensation. Plus administrative expenses, etc. Too much.

confiscation

OK guys, think about this.
The US doesn't have the manpower.
Obama is big on the UN!
I don't think it is anywhere short of thinking that a bunch of "Blue Helmets"
could come "knocking" at our doors.
The UN desperately wants US firearms out of civilian hands.
Remember Bolton stopping them in, what '04?
Well, we won't have a Bolton this time.
The House and the Senate are now fully anti-gun majorities.
Think about it. The UN would probably do it for free.

I've put this little quote together for you guys.
It is kind of in regards to the AHSA mentality of "why assault rifles? we hunt..."
Adapted from: Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)

"When they came for the machine guns,
I remained silent;
I did not own a machine gun.

When they banned the assault rifles,
I remained silent;
I did not own an assault rifle.

When they came for handguns,
I did not speak out;
I did not own a handgun.

When they came for the sporting rifles,
I remained silent;
I am a hunter.

When they came for my guns,
there was no one left to speak out."

Achtung Judenrat!

We speak of partisanship in Washington, yet
we as a gun-owing demographic are partisan.
Divided we fall.

There will not be thousands dead, there will not be a civil war,
civilians will be made an example of and the others will fall.
It pains me to say it, but, how many of us are married? Have children?
Would we all put our families through it? I think not.
I for one always thought that if it came to it, I would.
But I think fear would take the best of us.
We'd all be waiting for "that first person to start it."

If somebody would actually speak to the legal requirements and actual legislation which is thought to be likely, these threads could be left open.

But political/philosophica/venting stuff won't stay open.
