Gents,

Wanted to get your opinion of what pistol I should buy in preperation for the OBOMINATION ban. I have plenty of 1911's but I own no plastic fantastic pistols. Specifically, I would like suggestions for a pistol that meet the following criteria:

  • Made in the USA (pet peeve of mine)
  • Likely to be banned - so Hi-cap
  • Available in either 9mm or 40 (no 45 please)
  • Must have a thumb safety

That leaves out Glocks. I was looking at the S&W M&P, but only the 45 ACP has a special model that has a thumb safety. I looked at the Hi-Point 9mm but they don't seem to be available and the mags seem to only hold 10 cartridges as opposed to the 15-17 for others.

Anything out else there I am overlooking?

Well there's the beretta 90-two and the PX4. Both hi cap and both have external safeties - I know most of the 92fs models we see stateside are made in the USA and not in Italy, not sure where these 2 models are made, but maybe something worth looking into.

The Ruger SR9 fits the bill perfectly. I have many rounds through mine, and I like it a good bit. Though not made in the USA, I also picked up a Taurus 9mm OSS Tactical that meets all your other criteria. I carry them in a CrossBreed IWB SuperTuck holster.

Boarhunter

I like and have the CZ75BD 9mm and the IPSC Standard .40. The 75 comes with a manual safety as well, and is available in single action. I'm not buying guns or magazines in fear of political action at this time.

Is the FNP made in USA?

Certainly the recommended HK, CZ, and Berettas are not.

So far, on the Kel-Tec PLR-16 and STI 2011 meet the original criteria. :)

XD(m) with factory thumb safety? 16+1 rounds of .40s&w is never a bad idea for when SHTF. Throw a surefire light on there and you have yourself one sweet rig.

H&K USP(full-size or compact) is another option..I have a USPc.40 and I love it.

My absolute favorite gun that I own is my glock 19. If I could have one handgun forever it would have to be a glock 19. This gun set the bar for all these new polymer service guns flooding the market trying to get a cut of the LE market.

It's funny because I've owned only polymer handguns: 2 XDs, 2 Glocks, a Walther P99, H&K USPc, Kahr pm9, ruger lcp.

I seriously need to just get up and go buy a 1911 already. I need to see what all the fuss is about.

You are missing out on thousands of used Smith & Wesson 3rd generation pistols out there that are what I believe to be Police turn-ins. Everything from 5906's, 4006's, to 4506's so covers 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP calibers.
You can find these firearms for as little as $350. and magazines for them for as little as $20. each. These are great firearms and really built like tanks
and the only reason they were turned in is because the owners were sold a bill of goods on the new plastic versions that might be a little lighter, but I doubt will last as long as the stainless steel versions.

Which one? Doesn't matter. Just pick one out you like and get it. Plenty of good choices have been suggested.

Springfield XD45 Tactical. There are two versions out; one with no thumb safety, one with an ambidextrous thumb safety.

13+1 rounds of 45 ACP goodness in a grip equivalent to the grip of a single stack.

Ruger SR9 17+1 made in Prescott Az. SPringer XD made in Croatia(not sure of spelling).

Ruger CS is awsome if you ever need it.

Almost American

Quite a few have mentioned the Springfield XD.

Although the gun is branded and sold as a Springfield, it is actually made in Croatia. I suppose that even a former soviet-block country can turn out impressive hardware.

Well, I don't know if I'd go THAT far in describing it, but a good gun nevertheless.
