Last minute executive order?

Hmm, how about 1 in a centillion, thats 10³°³.

You've gotta remember, this is the same president that promised to sign the assault weapons ban renewal if it came to his desk. Sure Bush was better than gore would have been, but not by a whole lot.

Even if he did the guns wouldn't make it into boxes before Obama put an end to it.

What has the current POTUS done that would make anyone believe such a thing might remotely happen?

better yet, how many pardons will come between now and then?

Bush is known to be the stingiest president in modern times with pardons. I doubt that will change much as he is also the most stubborn.

What has Bush done for us?

Appoint 2 Supreme Court Justices that basically gave us Heller. One of those guys was nicknamed "Machine Gun Sammy".

Allowed and probably engineered behind closed doors the sunset of the AWB.

Passed absolutely no new executive orders expanding gun control or signed any gun control laws into law. I cannot think of a President since Ike that did that. Even Reagan gave us the current ban on full autos.

All in all, Bush has the best record on the 2nd Amendment that we are likely to get in a long time. It was very easy politcally for him so it isn't exactly a great stand for our freedoms but it was nice having no new gun laws nationally for 8 years and even having one expire.

Whats the chances Bush will issue an executive order reapealing the 1989 import ban?

About the same as his legacy being one of intellect and honor!

How about a new amnesty for last 30 days of pres term? He could instruct the AG to make it happen to get all the unregistered NFA weapons "on the books". I won't hold my breath, but keep in mind that VP Chaney is an NFA collector.

I don't think they are going to try to pass an AWB within a few months. Right now they need to focus on the economy. I believe that if they try banning guns before the economy gets fixed it will be very bad for them.
